CWRU 2026-27 Men’s and Women’s Swimming and Diving Season Preview

The Case Western Reserve University men's and women's swimming and diving teams are coming off their fifth consecutive season of success at the national championships with the women's squad tying for 23rd in Division III and the men's team placing 33rd in the country.

The teams will open the 2026-27 campaign with the Oberlin Early Invite on Friday, October 9 and Saturday, October 10. Action will begin at the Carr Pool on the campus of Oberlin College on Friday at 6 p.m. and Saturday at 9 a.m.

Four members of the CWRU women's swimming and diving team earned All-America honors last year. Junior Marina Oria and sophomore Sohalya Rawlins will both be back after placing 13th in the 200 Free Relay. The Spartans will return four additional national qualifiers in seniors Ava Ellis, Sheila Monera Cabarique, and Maggie Rose Rook and junior Anna Brown. Monera Cabarique and Rawlins helped to set the program record in the 400 Free Relay last year, while Rook was a member of the program record setting 800 Free Relay in 2024.

Six members of the women's swimming and diving team are seniors with Asma Khan, Erin Butler, and Lillian Paley joining Ellis, Monera Cabarique, and Rook in the Class of 2027. The team's junior class includes Brown, Oria, diver Anna Berry, Ryan Louden, Anisha Ojha, and Sayjel Tan. Returning sophomores are Rawlins, Olivia Jastrzab, Phoebe Kaplan, Tenzin Panamserkhang, Zara Rehman, Louisa Sanchez, and divers Jayna Kawas and Leila Monahan. Head Coach Doug Milliken added three new swimmers to the team this season in first-years Catherine Kwong, Andrea Phua, and Emma Salerno.

Milliken, now in his 17th season guiding the Spartan swimming and diving teams, will be joined by new Assistant Coach Max Rowland and new diving coach Chalmers McGillivray on deck this year.

The Spartan men's swimming and diving team had two All-Americans last year among its five national qualifiers. Sophomore diver Ryan Wells is the lone returning All-American after placing 14th at the 2026 national championship in the 3-meter dive.

CWRU has just two seniors on its roster: swimmer Michael Boelens and diver Jack Rudofsky. Juniors on the squad include Owen Miao, Edgar Rutkauskas, Vladimir Shibalov, Edward Steward, and Victor Trinh. The returning sophomores are Wells, River Chiang, Tigran Danagoulian, Sebastian Illum, Oliver Johnson, Oliver Lazenby, Elliott Lee, Trevor Novak, Hudson Perkins, Lucas Porta, and Cameron Schauer.

There are 15 new members of the men's swimming and diving team for the 2026-27 season, including 12 first-year swimmers. Aaron Burdell, Eddie Campion, Max Carter, Emmanuel Chu, Jordan Estimo, Jay Huang, George Hudson, Sonit Joshi, Soren Luhta, sophomore Jonas Nissan, Owen Rosenthal, PJ Varatta, sophomore diver Charlie Vatolin, and Baran Watson will be competing at the collegiate level for the first time. Sophomore Nick Klein is transferring from Division I Colgate University, where he recorded a season-best time of 16:36.31 in the 1650 Free.

After beginning the 2026-27 season at Oberlin, the Spartans will host Ohio Wesleyan and Centre on Saturday, October 24. The following week the team will take a trip to Pittsburgh to face Carnegie Mellon in a dual meet with a visit to Erie, Pennsylvania, and a dual meet against Gannon scheduled for November 7. The team will wrap up the fall with the Total Performance Invite, hosted by Kenyon College from November 19-21.

The Spartans will begin the spring portion of their schedule on January 16, 2027, with the Cleveland City Classic, hosted by Cleveland State University. The team will have three consecutive home meets, welcoming Kenyon (January 22), Oberlin (January 23), and John Carroll (January 30) to the Veale Natatorium. The 2027 University Athletic Association Men's and Women's Swimming and Diving Championships will be held from February 10-13 in Atlanta on the campus of Emory University. The squad will end the regular season by hosting the Spartan Invite on February 19 and 20 before the NCAA Diving Regional on February 26 and 27. The 2027 NCAA Division III Men's and Women's Swimming and Diving Championships will be held from March 17-20 at the Greensboro Aquatic Center in Greensboro, North Carolina.
