The Case Western Reserve University wrestling team celebrated its graduating members in style, defeating Washington & Jefferson College 50-0 on Friday night at Horsburgh Gymnasium in Cleveland.
The Spartans improved to 11-2 in dual matches, while the Presidents dropped to 5-10. CWRU won all 10 matches in the dual and both extra matches contests, earning bonus points in 10 contests.
How It Happened
- Senior E.J. Alizio started the dual with a pin in 23 seconds at 125 pounds, and senior Art Martinez followed with a pin in 1:53 at 133 pounds
- First-year Hunter Keane won by technical fall, 17-1 in 2:49, to add five points to the team lead, and sophomore Robert Minden prevailed by decision, 8-4, to make the score 20-0 after four bouts
- Senior Thomas Wagner secured the team's third first-period pin, winning in 2:26 at 157 pounds, and the Spartans followed with back-to-back technical falls at 165 and 174
- Senior Marty Landes defeated Jiovanni DeChicchis 17-1 in 3:48 and sophomore Chase Crutchley finished his 16-0 victory in 4:35
- Junior Mathew Gummere contributed six points with a pin in 4:54, and senior Aidan Gassel earned a 7-1 decision
- First-year Alexander Goldman ended the match with a pin in 2:25

- Prior to the dual, the Spartans celebrated their eight graduating members: Alizio, Conover, Gassel, Jacob Gregg, Landes, Martinez, Justin Sweeney, and Wagner
- In extra matches, sophomore Alexander Greene Barrios won by technical fall 17-2, his third tech of the season
- Senior John Conover pinned his opponent in 2:25, his ninth pin of the year
- Wagner won his 15th consecutive match, improving to 27-5 during the campaign with eight pins
- Keane increased his team-leading win total to 28, moving to 28-6 with five technical falls
- Alizio pinned his team-high 10th opponent this year
- Crutchley secured the 10th technical of his career, and Gummere pinned the 20th opponent of his career
- CWRU last had 11 dual wins during the 2022-23 season when the team finished 11-4
