Four members of the fourth-ranked Case Western Reserve University men's tennis team were named to the College Sports Communicators Academic All-District Team, as junior Anmay Devaraj, senior Casey Hishinuma, sophomore George Kosseifi, and senior Ajay Mahenthiran were all recognized for their academic and athletic achievements during the 2024-25 season.
This was the second career Academic All-District honor for Mahenthiran, who went on to be named to the Academic All-America First Team last season. Devaraj, Hishinuma, and Kosseifi each claimed an Academic All-District honor for the first time in their respective careers.
Student-athletes must be at least a sophomore academically with a cumulative grade point average greater than 3.50 and must have been in the team's lineup for at least 70 percent of an institution's days of team competition to be eligible for the award. Schools are limited to four selections per team. All four Spartans were selected to advance to the Academic All-America ballot, with three teams of Division III Academic All-Americans released on Wednesday, June 4.
Devaraj was named to the All-University Athletic Association First Team for his play at both no. 3 singles and no. 1 doubles during the year. He ended the season ranked 49th in the nation and 14th in the Central Region in singles play, and 13th in Division III and fifth in the region for his doubles efforts with Hishinuma. Devaraj went 22-9 in singles matches overall, including a 14-6 mark in third singles contests, and was 25-11 in doubles matches, including a 16-6 mark in the no. 1 position. Devaraj is a finance major and has a cumulative GPA of 3.903.
Hishinuma recently wrapped up his career as a Spartan with a 93-24 career singles record, the second-most singles victories in program history, while going 48-19 over his career in doubles matches. He led all CWRU players this year with a 30-7 singles record, including a 19-2 mark in fifth singles matches, and was 26-11 in doubles play, where he was ranked 13th nationally and fifth regionally with Devaraj. Hishinuma claimed All-UAA First Team honors for his play at no. 1 doubles. He graduated from CWRU as a mechanical engineering major with a 3.735 cumulative GPA.
Kosseifi has a 3.893 cumulative GPA as a biology major at CWRU. Playing mostly out of the no. 2 singles position during the season, he went 22-9 in singles matches and added an 11-6 mark in doubles contests. Kosseifi is the 40th-ranked singles player nationally and is ranked 13th in the Central Region.
Mahenthiran has a perfect 4.0 cumulative GPA during his time at CWRU and was recently named the Elite 90 Award winner at the NCAA Division III Championship. He notched an 18-10 record as the team's no. 1 singles player and was 25-13 overall in singles matches. He added a 22-6 mark in doubles contests during the year, including a 15-4 mark in the third position. Mahenthiran is ranked 11th nationally and fifth regionally in singles play and was named to the All-UAA First Team for his play at no. 1 singles.
The 2024-25 Academic All-District Men's Tennis Team, selected by CSC, recognizes the nation's top student-athletes for their combined performances on the court and in the classroom. The CSC Academic All-America program separately recognizes men's tennis honorees in four divisions — NCAA Division I, NCAA Division II, NCAA Division III, and NAIA.
The Division III CSC Academic All-America program is partially financially supported by the NCAA Division III national governance structure to assist CSC with handling the awards fulfillment aspects for the 2024-25 Division III Academic All-America programs.
CWRU reached the National Championship for the fourth time in the last five years in 2025, placing second at the NCAA Division III Championship in Claremont, California. The Spartans ended the season with a 29-6 overall record and won the UAA Championship for the second time in program history.
