Box Score
The 17th-ranked Case Western Reserve University baseball team saw its historic 2025 campaign come to a close on Saturday afternoon in Baltimore with a 12-7 loss to top-ranked Johns Hopkins University in the second game of the Super-Regional of the NCAA Division III Baseball Championship.
The Spartans end their 2025 season with a 30-14-1 overall record, while the Blue Jays improved to 44-3, winning their 26th consecutive game. With the win, Johns Hopkins will advance to the NCAA Division III Championship site in East Lake, Ohio next week.
The loss came despite a monster final game of the career of graduate student first baseman Dane Camphausen, who went three-for-five with two runs, four RBIs, two home runs, and a double. He ended his season with a program-record 19 home runs, while his 63 career home runs are the most among active NCAA Division III players and tied for the fourth most over a career in NCAA Division III history.
The Blue Jays put a crooked number on the board in the first inning for the second straight game with a two-RBI single from Dillon Souvignier and a three-run home run from Jimmy Stevens putting Johns Hopkins in front 5-0 after the top of the first. Camphausen got the Spartans on the board in the bottom of the first with a two-out solo home run, cutting the lead to 5-1, but Alex Shane connected for a two-run home run in the top of the second to extend the Blue Jays' lead to 7-1.
CWRU had an answer in the bottom of the second. Junior center fielder Matt Trout reached on an error to start the frame and graduate student third baseman Zack Carinci followed with a base hit up the middle. After a double steal put two runners in scoring position, a run-scoring ground out from senior left fielder Logan Andreyko and a sacrifice fly from sophomore shortstop Nate Arterburn trimmed the Johns Hopkins lead back to four, 7-3. However, the Blue Jays had another response in the top of the third, scoring two more runs to increase their lead back to six, and a solo home run by Shawn Steuerer in the top of the fourth made it 10-3.
The Spartans chipped away at the Blue Jays' lead with Camphausen's second home run of the game and 19th of the season in the fifth inning making it a six-run deficit. In the sixth, a two-out infield single by senior right fielder Nick Harms scored Andreyko and Camphausen followed with a two-run double to right center field, making it a 10-7 game.
First-year southpaw Jeff Radinsky entered the game with two on and one out in the seventh and proceeded to retire the next two batters without a run crossing the plate. He pitched a scoreless eighth as well, but the Blue Jays added two insurance runs in the ninth, extending their lead to 12-7. CWRU put two men in scoring position in the bottom of the ninth after a single from graduate student Franco Alonso and a ground-rule double by Trout, but the Spartans could not plate a run and ultimately saw their season come to a close.
Johns Hopkins' Ryan Anderson earned the win in relief, improving to 5-1 on the season, while Grant Meert earned his sixth save of the year. CWRU sophomore and right-handed starting pitcher Tyler Stillson suffered the loss, the first of his career, ending his campaign with a 2-1 record.
Saturday's loss ended an otherwise outstanding season for the Spartans, who won the University Athletic Association Championship for the sixth time in program history and qualified for the NCAA Tournament for the eighth time. CWRU won 30 or more games for the fourth time and reached the Super-Regional round of the NCAA Championship for the first time in program history.
