The Case Western Reserve University men's and women's swimming and diving teams have earned the College Swimming Coaches Association of America (CSCAA) Scholar All-America Team honor for the fall 2024 semester, the organization announced on Monday. Both teams ranked in the top 15 in Division III in grade point average among schools with the men's team earning the 12th-best GPA in the country and the women's team placing 14th in Division III.
The men's team ranked 12th among 143 ranked Division III teams and fourth in the University Athletic Association with a grade point average of 3.67. In the pool, the men's team ranks 14th in the country, according to the CSCAA.
The women's team earned a grade point average of 3.74 in the fall which ranked 14th out of 176 ranked Division III teams and third among UAA schools. The team has also consistently performed well in the pool by currently ranking 14th in the CSCAA national coaches' poll.
The awards are in recognition of teams that achieved a grade point average of 3.0 or higher during the Fall 2024 semester.
The CWRU swimming and diving coaching staff includes Head Coach Doug Milliken, who has led both teams for 15 seasons, Assistant Coach Matthew Schaeffer, and Diving Coach Morgan Gougler. The Spartans have earned CSCAA Scholar All-America Team honors in every one of Milliken's 15 years.
In total, 781 teams from 459 colleges and universities across all three NCAA divisions, the NAIA, and NJCAA earned Scholar All-America Team honors. Because both teams earned a GPA higher than 3.30, they will now become eligible for the Intercollegiate Coach Association Coalition All-Sport Academic Standings.
The UAA was one of 12 conferences across the country and one of four in Division III to have all its men's and women's teams to be named CSCAA Scholar All-America Team honors.
The Spartans continue their season on Wednesday, February 12, the first day of the 2025 UAA Swimming and Diving Championships hosted by Emory University in Atlanta. The four-day meet will conclude on Saturday, February 15.
