The Case Western Reserve University men's and women's swimming and diving teams opened the 2025-26 season with a strong performance at the Oberlin Early Invite at Carr Pool in Oberlin, Ohio, on Friday and Saturday.
The Spartan women's team placed first out of five teams with 1,299.5 points, and the men's team was first out of four teams with 1,688.5 points. The Spartans combined to win 27 of the 42 events at the invite.
Standouts and Top Times
- Senior Claire Kozma recorded three NCAA B cuts in the season-opening meet, swimming times of 23.52 of the 50 Free, 55.26 in the 100 Fly, and 2:04.02 in the 200 Fly
- Kozma was also a member of the winning 200 Free Relay (1:35.89), 400 Medley Relay (3:58.64), 400 Free Relay (3:35.90), and 800 Free Relay (8:00.80)
- Junior Lillian Paley won the 100 IM (1:03.55) and 200 IM (2:14.46)
- Junior Ava Ellis added a pair of wins in the 200 Breast (2:29.41) and 1650 Free (18:03.38)
- First-year Sohalya Rawlins won the 100 Free in 53.83, and first-year Jayna Kawas was victorious in the 3-meter dive with a score of 227.15 in their collegiate debuts
- For the men's team, senior William Froass helped CWRU win six events: three relays and three individual races
- Froass won the 200 IM (1:54.55), 100 Back (50.94), and 200 Back (1:53.31) and was a member of the winning 200 Free Relay (1:23.72), 400 Medley Relay (3:23.99), and 200 Medley Relay (1:33.26)
- Senior John Drumm added a pair of individual wins in the 200 Fly (1:52.10) and 500 Free (4:38.97), while also helping the Spartans take the 800 Free Relay in 6:59.00
- Also adding a pair of individual wins was senior Mason Bencurik in the 100 Free (45.98) and 200 Free (1:41.50)
- First-years Trevor Novak (50 Free, 21.22) and Oliver Lazenby (200 Breast, 2:06.21) won individual races in their collegiate debuts, and sophomore Edgar Rutkauskas added a victory in the 100 Breast (57.44)

The Spartans will take a week off from intercollegiate competition before a pair of meets during the following weekend. The teams face Ohio Wesleyan in a dual meet on Saturday, October 25 and travel to Centre College for the Battle in the Bluegrass on Saturday and Sunday, October 26.
