Box Score The Case Western Reserve University men's tennis team kicked off its 2024 fall season this weekend at the Denison Invitational, hosted by Denison University in Granville, Ohio on Saturday and Sunday.
In addition to CWRU, which ended the 2023-24 campaign ranked fourth in Division III, the event featured a strong field, including players from top-ranked Chicago, eighth-ranked Denison, 26th-ranked Carnegie Mellon, 28th-ranked Washington & Lee, and the University of Northwestern Ohio, which is ranked fourth in the NAIA.
As a team, the Spartans finished the weekend with a 36-17 record in singles matches and a 12-13 mark in doubles contests. Four CWRU players went undefeated in singles matches, with sophomore George Kosseifi, junior Justin Prochnow, and sophomore Santiago Salazar Garza each going 3-0, while junior Matthew Plunkett won both of his singles contests. First-year Leon Chen, first-year Rohit Jain, first-year Konrad Kwiatkowski, senior Ajay Mahenthiran, senior Ben Martin, first-year Rowan Matorin, first-year Luke Saylor, and first-year Jon Totorica each went 2-1 during the weekend.
In doubles action, the duo of Totorica and Chen went 3-0 together, while sophomore Trey Lambright, Martin, Saylor, and sophomore Derek Shiffer each picked up two doubles wins during the tournament.
The Spartans will continue their fall schedule next weekend at the Youngstown State Invitational on Saturday, September 14 and Sunday, September 15 in Youngstown, Ohio.
