Aduru Reaches NCAA Singles Semifinals; Both Spartan Doubles Pairs Advance in Draw

Case Western Reserve University junior Vishwa Aduru advanced to the semifinals of the singles draw at the NCAA Division III Men's Tennis Championships at the USTA National Campus in Orlando, Florida with a win on Friday. In addition, he teamed with senior James Hopper in the doubles draw to claim a spot in the semifinals with a victory on Friday, as did the duo of seniors Diego Maza and Chris Provenzano.

Aduru, the eighth-seeded player in the singles draw, earned his spot in the semifinals with a 6-3, 7-6 (4) win over Aiden Drover-Mattinen of RPI in Friday's quarterfinal match. He has now won each of his last 12 singles matches and stands at 23-7 in singles play overall.

Also in the singles quarterfinals, Hopper saw his Spartan singles career end, as the draw's top-seeded player suffered a 7-5, 6-4 setback to Thomas Yu of John Hopkins. Hopper ended his outstanding singles career as a Spartan with an 82-19 record, the fourth-most wins in program history, including a 28-4 singles record this season.

Aduru will face unseeded Matthew Kandel of Williams in the semifinals of the singles draw on Saturday at 9:00 a.m. On the other side of the draw, Yu will take on sixth-seeded Rishabh Sharda of Tufts for the right to play in Sunday's NCAA Division III Championship match.

In doubles action, Maza and Provenzano, unseeded in the draw, earned a spot in the semifinals with a 7-5, 6-1 victory over fourth-seeded Nick Aney and Daniel Fouchier of Gustavus Adolphus. Next up for Maza and Provenzano will be a matchup against unseeded Michael Melnikow and Utham Koduri of Swarthmore at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday.

On the other side of the doubles draw, Hopper and Aduru, seeded first in the draw, defeated Emory's Ryan Glanville and Charlie James in the quarterfinals on Friday, 6-3, 7-6 (4) to secure their spot in the semifinals. Next up for the duo will be the semifinals matchup against either third-seeded Chase Cohen and Kandel of Williams or Thomas Yu and James Yu of Johns Hopkins at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday.

Winners of the two semifinal doubles matches will advance to the championship at 12:00 p.m. on Sunday.
