Pritchett & VonFeldt Notch NCAA 'B' Cuts on Friday

Case Western Reserve University first-year Maria Pritchett placed seventh in the 400-yard individual medley and notched a NCAA 'B' cut and new school record time in the preliminaries, while junior Caitlyn VonFeldt placed fifth in the 100-yard backstroke with a NCAA 'B' cut time to highlight the Spartans' Friday performances at the 2020 University Athletic Association Championships in Chicago, Illinois.

Pritchett placed seventh in the 400-yard individual medley with a time of 4:30.94. During the preliminaries of the event, she finished fifth with a NCAA 'B' cut and new school record time of 4:28.40. That time bests the previous school record of 4:30.59 set by former Spartan Mary Katherine Miller in 2015. First-year Abby Halsdorfer added a 14th place finish in the event with a time of 4:32.37.

VonFeldt placed fifth in the 100-yard backstroke with a NCAA 'B' cut time of 56.26.

For the women, the 200-yard medley relay team of VonFeldt, sophomore Kelly Moton, sophomore Anna Smith and sophomore Sarah Krueger placed sixth with a time of 1:45.93. The women's 800-yard freestyle relay team of Pritchett, Halsdorfer, Krueger and sophomore Daniella Rupert finished sixth in the event with a time of 7:43.46.

Individually for the Spartan women, Anna Smith placed 13th in the 100-yard butterfly with a time of 57.38, while Moton earned a 10th place finish in the 100-yard breaststroke with a time of 1:06.15.

For the men, the 200-yard medley relay team of junior Will McDonald, sophomore Calvin Tecson, first-year Patrick Cavanaugh and first-year Anatole Borisov finished sixth with a new school record time of 1:31.77. That time bests the previous mark of 1:32.35 set at the 2019 Wooster Invitational. The men's 800-yard freestyle relay team of sophomore Neil Wible, sophomore Ryan Gilbert, sophomore Nicholas Schoenig and first-year Andrew Smith added a sixth place finish in the event with a time of 6:53.01.

Borisov also added a 14th place finish in the 100-yard butterfly with a time of 50.03. During the preliminaries of the event, he set a new school record as he placed ninth with a time of 49.69. That time bests the previous school record of 49.84 set by former Spartan Aaron Tam in 2015. One other school record fell for the Spartan men on Friday, as McDonald placed 19th in the 100-yard backstroke with a school record time of 50.90.  That time breaks the previous school record of 51.12 set by McDonald during Thursday's UAA championships.

Additionally, junior Sean Twomey placed 10th in the 400-yard individual medley (4:03.00), junior Ryan Gorman finished 13th in the 400 IM (4:05.09), junior Kyle Barclay placed 16th in the 400 IM (4:08.38), Andrew Smith finished 12th in the 200-yard freestyle (1:40.81) and Wible placed 15th in the 200 Free (1:41.76).

With one day remaining at the UAA Championships, the Case Western Reserve men are in sixth placed with 482 points, while the women are in sixth with 484. Emory leads both team standings, with the women tallying 1,162.5 points and the men 1,124.5 points through three days of competition.

The 2020 UAA Championships will conclude on Saturday, with the men's one-meter dive, the 1,650-yard freestyle, the 200-yard backstroke, the 100-yard freestyle, the 200-yard breaststroke, the 200-yard butterfly and the 400-yard freestyle relay on the slate of events for the final day.
