CWRU Swimming & Diving Sweeps Wooster on Friday

The Case Western Reserve University men's and women's swimming and diving teams each picked up wins on Friday night, with the men earning a 178.5 – 58.5 win over the College of Wooster, and the women claiming a 133.5 – 105.5 victory.

The CWRU men and women both raised their record to 2-1 on the year, while the Wooster men dropped to 2-1 and the women fell to 3-1.

The Spartan men and women combined to win 18 of the 26 events on Friday, including 11 first-place finishes for the men, and seven for the women.

Senior Drew Hamilton led the Spartan men, as he won the 500-yard freestyle with a time of 4:52.92. He later teamed with senior Oliver Hudgins, senior John Tomko and junior Brody Schmidt to place first in the 400-yard freestyle relay with a time of 3:15.89.

The Spartans won the 400-yard medley relay as well, with Hamilton, Hudgins, freshman Will McDonald and freshman Jonathan Liu finishing first with a time of 3:35.94. Other individual wins by the Spartan men on Friday came from junior Keith Erichsen in the 1,000-yard freestyle (10:08.90), Schmidt in the 200-yard freestyle (1:48.29), freshman Sean Twomey in the 200-yard individual medley (2:01.40), senior Aaron Pang in the 200-yard butterfly (1:58.89), McDonald in the 200-yard backstroke (2:01.88) and Liu in the 200-yard breaststroke (2:17.71).

On the boards, freshman Cassiel Yuzik swept the two diving events with scores of 218.80 in the one-meter dive and 198.20 in the three-meter dive.

The women also picked up wins in both relays on Friday night, with junior Suhan Mestha, junior Alli Drohosky, sophomore Monica Khare and freshman Vanya Ruppart finishing first in the 400-yard medley relay with a time of 4:07.95, and Mestha, Ruppart, senior Jennifer Eurich and sophomore Rhiannon Reese winning the 400-yard freestyle relay with a time of 3:41.77.

Mestha would claim the top-spot in the 200-yard backstroke with a time of 2:09.44. Sophomore Olivia Picchione added a victory in the 200-yard individual medley with a time of 2:14.90, while freshman Caroline Dudenhoeffer finished first in the 200-yard breaststroke with a time of 2:34.80.

Senior Brooke Hortness came away with a win in the one-meter dive with a score of 181.55, while junior Sydney Anderson won the three-meter dive with a score of 175.60.
