The Case Western Reserve University women's swimming and diving team earned a 224.5-74.5 victory over Baldwin Wallace University on Saturday, while the men's squad defeated BW 199-98.
With the win, the Spartan men's record improved to 8-2 on the season, while the women also moved to 8-2 in dual meet action this season.
The CWRU women picked up first-place finishes in 15 of the 16 events during the meet, while the men tallied 12 titles in 16 events.
Junior Brooke Hortness, with scores of 192.00 in the three-meter dive and 160.80 in the one-meter dive, took first place in both events. Freshman Sienna Picchione added a win in the 1650-yard freestyle, touching the wall with a mark 18:59.73. Freshman Olivia Picchione finished first in the 200-yard freestyle with a time of 2:01.64, while freshman Julia Ver Voort won both the 50-yard backstroke (29.37) and the 100-yard Individual Medley (1:03.83).
Freshman Sarah Taekman took the title of the 50-yard breaststroke with a time of 33.25 and also picked up another win in the 100-yard breaststroke with a time of 1:11.46. Also picking up first place titles for the Spartans, sophomore Casey Crowley in the 100-yard butterfly (1:01.31) and in the 50-yard butterfly (28.07), freshman Rhiannon Reese in the 50-yard freestyle (25.93), freshman Victoria Schoenig in the 100-yard freestyle (57.32) and sophomore Bhavya Kumaran in the 100-yard backstroke (1:04.02).
The women's 200-yard medley relay team of sophomore Lauren Homack, Kumaran, Taekman and Crowley won the event with a mark of 1:55.43. The 200-yard freestyle relay team of sophomore Alli Drohosky, freshman Aleah Hixenbaugh, Sienna Picchione and freshman Monica Khare won the event with a time of 1:47.24.
On the men's side, finishing first in the 200-yard medley relay were junior Oliver Hudgins, freshman A.J. Quinn, junior Logan Smith and sophomore Brody Schmidt with a time of 1:40.12. The 200-yard freestyle relay team of Hudgins, Schmidt, junior Drew Hamilton and senior Andrew Henning also took first place with a time of 1:28.76, which is a new Baldwin Wallace pool record.
A total of eight Spartan men won individual events, with Hamilton winning both the 1650-yard freestyle (16:38.25, a new BW pool record) and the 100-yard IM (56.78), Schmidt finishing first in the 50-yard freestyle (22.41) and in the 100-yard freestyle (48.87), Smith claiming the win in the 200-yard freestyle (1:47.64) and freshman John Libert winning the 50-yard backstroke (26.43) and the 50-yard butterfly (24.30). Additionally, Hudgins won the 100-yard butterfly (52.57), Henning won the 100-yard backstroke (56.64) and freshman Tom Schlechter took the 500-yard freestyle (4:52.48).
The teams will next travel to Chicago for the UAA Championships at the University of Chicago from Wednesday, February 8th through Saturday, February 11th.
