CWRU Men Sweep; Women Take Two at Quad Meet

The Case Western Reserve University men's and women's swimming and diving teams competed in a quad meet in Grove City, Pennsylvania on Saturday afternoon, with the men picking up a sweep and the women going 2-1.

The Spartan men defeated Gannon University (200-79), Grove City College (180-116) and the University of Rochester (164-124). The women picked up their two wins against Gannon (179-115) and Grove City (166-134), but fell to Rochester (190-110).

The Spartan men stand at 6-2, while the women are 5-2 in dual meets this season, following Saturday's meet.

Juniors Drew Hamilton and Aaron Pang headlined the men's performances, each picking up a pair of wins at the meet. Hamilton won both the 200-yard freestyle (1:45.16) and the 100-yard freestyle in a career-best time (48.50). Pang won the 200-yard butterfly (27.08) and the 100-yard butterfly (24.57). In addition, junior Oliver Hudgins won the 50-yard freestyle with a time of 21.86.

Hamilton and Hudgins also teamed with senior Andrew Henning and sophomore Brody Schmidt to the 200-yard freestyle relay with a time of 1:27.34.

For the women, junior Inez Moore and freshman Sarah Taekman each picked up second place finishes. Moore place second in the 50-yard freestyle with a time of 25.24 and Taekman placed second in the 200-yard breaststroke with a time of 2:31.50.

The Spartans will now turn their attention towards their final meet of the fall semester, the Wooster Invitational, from Thursday December 1st through Saturday December 3rd.
