Swisher's Heroics Cap Baseball Sweep of Pitt-Greensburg

Box Score

CLEVELAND - Senior catcher Jordan Swisher (Pittsford, N.Y. /Pittsford Sutherland) hit a two-out, two-run, walk-off triple to give the Case Western Reserve baseball team a dramatic 4-3 win in the second game of a doubleheader sweep of University of Pittsburgh Greensburg.

Swisher's clutch hit made a winner of junior pitcher Connor Tagg (Springfield, Va. /West Springfield), who continued his sterling season with 4.1 innings of one-hit relief. He did not walk a batter and fanned two. Tagg has not given up a run in his last six appearances totaling 10.1 innings, posting a 3-0 record in that span.

The Bobcats jumped to a 2-0 lead in the first inning, but the Spartans evened the score with a pair of runs in the third inning. Senior rightfielder Antonio Damiano (Naples, Fla. /Gulf Coast) doubled down the left field line, his third two-bagger of the day, moved to third on a groundout by sophomore centerfielder Aaron Cain (Hartville, Ohio /Archbishop Hoban) and scored on a groundout by senior shortstop Kerrigan Cain (Hartville, Ohio /Archbishop Hoban). Sophomore leftfielder Josh Neal (Gaithersburg, Md. /St. John's College) started a two-out rally with a single and moved to third on a single to center by senior third baseman Andrew Gronski (Hilliard, Ohio /Hilliard Davidson). While Gronski got himself in a rundown, Neal stole home to score the tying run.

CWRU went down 1-2-3 in four of the next five innings and entered the home half of the ninth inning trailing 3-2. With one out, Gronski singled and was replaced by pinch-runner freshman outfielder Nate Glasser (San Diego, Calif. /Francis Parker) . One out later, sophomore catcher Eric Eldred (Tecumseh, Mich. /Tecumseh) was hit by a pitch, setting up Swisher for his game-winning triple to center.

Swisher and Gronski were the only players on either team with multiple hits.

Junior Lee Penzarella (Philadelphia, Pa. /Friends Central) started for the Spartans and gave up three runs, striking out four in 4.2 innings.

The Spartans, who are riding a five-game winning streak and improved to 13-9, will host Pitt-Bradford at 1 p.m. tomorrow.
