CHICAGO – Sophomore Brianna Cain (Perry, Ohio/Perry) broke the school 100-yard breaststroke record, and junior captain Maggie Dillione (Newtown, Pa./Council Rock North) placed runner-up in the 100 fly as the Case Western Reserve University women's swimming & diving team moved up a spot to sixth on day two of three of the 2013 University Athletic Association Championship at the Ratner Center.
The Spartans have totaled 483.5 points and are still within striking distance of the University of Rochester (N.Y.) in fifth with 575. New York University is also right behind the Spartans with 436.
During morning prelims, Cain swam to a time of 1:06.84 in the 100 breaststroke. The previous school standard of 1:07.09 was set in 2011 by Jacquie Buckler.
In the finals, Dillione placed runner-up in the 100 fly with an NCAA "B" cut time of 56.57. Dillione, whose season best is 56.25, turned in a time of 56.42 during prelims.
Junior Sara Tillie (Fallston, Md./Fallston), who broke the school 200 individual medley record last night, hit an NCAA "B" cut as well in the 400 IM with a mark of 4:35.20.
In the final women's event of the evening, the Spartans placed fifth in the 800 free relay. Freshmen Rebecca Pakradooni (Augusta, Ga./Lakeside) and Alison Thirion (Cortland, Ohio/Warren G. Harding) along with Dillione and Tillie finished in a "B" cut time of 6:51.96.
The UAA Championship wraps up on Saturday with prelims set for 10:00 a.m. (CDT) and finals at 6:00 p.m. (CDT).
