PITTSBURGH – The Case Western Reserve University women's swimming & diving team opened the 2013-14 season with a 191-101 loss to University Athletic Association rival Carnegie Mellon University on Saturday afternoon at CMU Pool.
Senior co-captains Maggie Dillione (Newton, Pa./Council Rock North) and Sara Tillie (Fallston, Md./Fallston) each won two individual events and were part of the 200-yard freestyle relay team that placed first.
Dillione's time of 2:08.57 in the 200 butterfly was best in the field and good for an NCAA "B" cut. Sophomore Elizabeth Landis (Pittsburgh, Pa./Pittsburgh Allerdice) finished third in the event with a time of 2:30.33. In the 100 butterfly, Dillione swam a 57.83.
Tillie was champion of both the 200 free and 200 individual medley with times of 1:58.85 and 2:13.69, respectively.
Joining the captains in the 200 free relay (1:42.07) was sophomore Rebecca Pakradooni (Augusta, Ga./Lakeside) and freshman Hannah Saunders (St. Charles, Ill./St. Charles East).
Another Case quartet claimed second in the event as sophomore Alison Thirion (Cortland, Ohio/Warren G. Harding), freshman Emily Boluda (Bowie, Md./Eleanor Roosevelt), sophomore Rachael Loek (Woodridge, Ill./Downers Grove South) and junior Sarah Mastrandrea (East Amherst, N.Y./Amherst Central) swam a 1:49.34.
The Spartans return to action next Saturday, November 2 with the opening meets of the Cleveland City Tournament at Veale Natatorium. Action is set to begin at 1 p.m. with Case taking on John Carroll University and Notre Dame College (Ohio).
