SOUTH EUCLID, Ohio – Competing in its final dual meet of 2011-12, the Case Western Reserve University women's swimming & diving team defeated NCAA Division II Notre Dame College (Ohio), 102-93, on Friday evening at Mellon Pool. The Spartans (4-8) now prepare for the University Athletic Association Championship which is less than two weeks away.
The Spartans picked up wins in four individual events and both relays.
Freshman Grace Gunderman (El Segundo, Calif. / Notre Dame Academy) was first in the 1,000-yard freestyle with a time of 11:21.06, while sophomore Maggie Dillione (Newtown, Pa. / Council Rock North) beat the field in 200 individual medley in 2:16.73.
The rookie duo of Abby Glenn (Novi, Mich./Novi) and Brianna Cain (Perry, Ohio/Perry) also won events – Glenn in the 500 free (5:29.53) and Cain in the 100 breaststroke (1:11.63).
In the opening relay of the night, Dillione teamed with senior Stephanie Campbell (Highland Heights, Ohio/Mayfield), sophomore Sara Tillie (Fallston, Md./Fallston) and senior Jessica Nuhfer (Warren, Pa./Warren Area) to win the 400 medley in 4:08.69.
In the closing relay, it was Dillione, senior Lucy Bollinger (Boulder, Colo./Fairview), Campbell and Tillie placing first in 3:40.52.
Next for Case is the 2012 UAA Championship Meet held from Wednesday through Saturday, Feb. 15-18, at the friendly confines of Veale Natatorium in Cleveland. Diving events run each day at William H. Johnson Natatorium on the campus of John Carroll University in University Heights with 1:00 p.m. prelims and 3:00 p.m. finals. Swimming events run from Thursday through Saturday at Veale with 10:00 a.m. prelims and 6:00 p.m. finals.
