ROCHESTER, N.Y. – The Case Western Reserve University women's swimming & diving team opened its 2011-12 campaign with an 0-3 record at the University of Rochester Quad Meet on Friday and Saturday, October 28-29 at the Speegle-Wilbraham Aquatic Center.
The Spartans lost to Carnegie Mellon University (Pa.), 246-118, New York University, 215-153, and host Rochester, 200-168.
On day one, sophomore Sara Tillie (Fallston, Md./Fallston) turned in the top finish for the Spartans with a second-place showing in the 200-yard individual medley (2:13.91).
On day two, Tillie won the 100-yard freestyle in 54.45, was second in the 200-yard freestyle in 1:58.51, and third in the 400-yard IM in 4:45.67.
Sophomore Maggie Dillione (Newtown, Pa./Council Rock North), the team's Rookie of the Year last season, finished runner-up in the 200-yard butterfly in 2:15.41 and was second in the 100-yard butterfly in 1:00.52.
Senior Stephanie Campbell (Highland Heights, Ohio/Mayfield) was runner-up in the 100 back with a mark of 1:02.45.
The 400-yard freestyle relay placed first as the quartet of Dillione, senior Jessica Nuhfer (Warren, Pa./Warren Area), Campbell and Tillie finished in 3:43.56.
After a week off from competition, the Spartans return to the pool on Friday and Saturday, November 11-12 with the Veale Classic Duals at Veale Natatorium in Cleveland. Case opens the weekend versus John Carroll University at 7:00 p.m. on Friday then closes out the meet on Saturday at either 12:00 p.m. or 2:00 p.m.
