Kassaie, Wang Selected to NCAA Singles and Doubles Championships

Two members of the Case Western Reserve University women's tennis team—graduate student Hannah Kassaie and senior Katalina Wang—were selected to compete in the 2026 NCAA Division III Women's Tennis Singles and Doubles Championships, the organization announced in a press release on Wednesday night.

This is the first time in program history that multiple Spartans will be competing in the national singles championship. CWRU will be represented at the NCAA Individual Championships for the 11th consecutive tournament, a streak dating back to 2015, and for the 12th year overall. It is the fifth year in a row, and seventh overall, that Case Western Reserve will have student-athletes compete in both the singles and doubles draws.

Kassaie is the top-ranked singles player in Region V, according to the NCAA, and Wang ranks fourth in the region. The partnership is also ranked first in Region V. According to the ITA, the duo ranks 10th nationally with Wang ranking 25th as a singles player and Kassaie ranking 43rd. The pairing received All-University Athletic Association First Team honors for their play at first doubles with Kassaie named to the First Team and Wang named to the Second Team for singles play.

This season, the duo is 10-0 together, winning all three matches at the UAA Championship. Overall, Wang is 22-7 in doubles play during the 2025-26 while, while Kassaie has a record of 11-0 in doubles matches.

In singles play this season, Kassaie is 9-2 (.818). Across her four year career, she has a 77-13 (.856) singles record, the most wins and best record in program history. Wang has a mark of 22-4 in singles play during the 2025-26 season, including a 9-1 record in tournaments. In her four seasons of competition, she is 62-31 (.667), the third most singles win in Spartan lore.

Kassaie is appearing in the national championship for the fourth time in her career, while Wang is making her second career appearance after her debut in the doubles championship last season. Kassaie and Lily McCloskey matched the program record for furthest national run by reaching the quarterfinals in 2022, while the duo lost in the first round in both 2023 and 2024. Last season, McCloskey and Wang also advanced to the quarterfinal of the doubles draw.

Kassaie had the furthest-ever run by a CWRU student-athlete in the singles championship when she reached the national quarterfinals in 2023. She advanced to the second round in 2024 and played in the first round in 2022.

The national singles and doubles championships are scheduled to begin on Friday, May 22 at the Champions Tennis Club in Chattanooga, Tennessee. The singles bracket includes 32 players with two rounds played on Saturday, and one round on Sunday, Monday, and Tuesday. The doubles bracket features 16 pairings with one round of competition scheduled for each day. The draw for the individual championship will be completed by the women's tennis committee and released on Thursday, May 21.

CWRU was also selected to compete in the team championship, traveling to Johns Hopkins University in Baltimore for the first three rounds this weekend. The Spartans face Albright on Friday, May 8 at 4 p.m. at the Tennis Courts at Johns Hopkins.
