The Case Western Reserve University women's track and field team produced a pair of conference champions, an NCAA qualifier, and broke five school records during the 2025-26 indoor season.
First-year Gianna Phipps became just the second sprinter in program history to qualify for the NCAA Indoor Track and Field Championships, doing so in the 400-meter dash. The selection to the national field capped an outstanding debut season for Phipps, who was named the University Athletic Association Rookie of the Year for women's indoor track and field, won a conference championship, and set three school records.
Phipps was one of two Spartans to claim a conference title at the 2026 UAA Indoor Track and Field Championships in Massachusetts, winning the 400-meter dash in a school-record time of 56.40 seconds. She also placed third in the 200-meter dash in a school-record time of 25.47 seconds and third in the 4x400-meter relay to finish the weekend with three All-UAA honors. Senior Michelle Lee won the conference championship in the weight throw for the second season in a row, defending her title with a toss of 16.17 meters. Senior Grace Misiunas earned All-UAA recognition by placing second in the 60-meter hurdles in a school record time of 8.99 seconds, and first-year Samaria Benochi, first-year Elizabeth Crossan, and first-year Melanie Taylor joined Phipps on the 4x400-meter relay, finishing in a school-record time of 3:59.96.
Overall, CWRU placed sixth in the conference with 50.25 points. The team's distance medley relay of seniors Ayla Grabenbauer, Arianna Holbrook, Julia Hluck, and Lauren Iagnemma finished seventh to earn the team two points. Holbrook placed fourth in the 800-meter dash with a school-record time of 2:16.18, and Taylor added an eighth-place finish in the 400-meter dash. On the track, first-year Esther Umezurike-Chukwu finished eighth in the 60-meter dash, while in the field, sophomore Anna Callo placed eighth in the pole vault and first-year Gianna Lacey tied for eighth in the high jump.
Seven members of the squad received All-Great Lakes Region honors from the USTFCCCA for recording top eight marks in the region. Phipps was honored in the 200-meter dash, 400-meter dash, and 4x400-meter relay, Holbrook received acclaim in the 800-meter run, Lee earned honors in the weight throw, and Misiunas was recognized in the 60-meter hurdles. Benochi, Crossan, and Taylor were also recognized as members of the 4x400-meter relay.
The Spartans placed second at three meets during the 2025-26 campaign, finishing as the runner-up at the Dr. Taraschke Team Challenge in January, the Bob Shannon Invite in February, and the All-Ohio Indoor Championships just a week later.
Six members of the squad were placed on the CSC Academic All-District Team, honoring their achievements on the track and in the classroom. Senior Madison Martinez joined Grabenbauer, Hluck, Iagnemma, Misiunas, and Taylor in receiving the honor.
