The Case Western Reserve University women's tennis team, ranked 18th in Division III by the ITA, will begin the spring portion of its 2025-26 season on Friday, February 6 with a home match against 38th-ranked Hope College at 2:30 p.m. at the Mayfield Village Racquet Club in Mayfield Heights, Ohio.
Senior co-captain Katalina Wang will lead the Spartans on the court after earning her first All-America honor last season. In the fall, she advanced to the quarterfinals of both the ITA Central Regional Singles and Doubles Championships, going 9-1 in singles play and 8-4 in doubles play. Across four seasons with the team, Wang has a 49-28 singles record and 58-28 doubles record, the eighth-most doubles wins in program history. She has received All-University Athletic Association Second Team honors twice for her doubles play and All-UAA honorable mention for her singles play once.
Junior co-captain Katie Wong, first-year Atra Biria, and first-year Tara Markovic all reached the singles round of 32 at the regional competition, and first-year Gabby Lee joined Wang in the regional doubles quarterfinal. Juniors Kareena Sivanesan and Prachi Shah, sophomores Yasemin Bilgin, Maya Brink, and Sara Fernandez, and first-years Ava Karrenbauer, Emma Thoms, and Trisha Vellanki played for CWRU during the fall season. Additionally, senior co-captain Ellior Rose and first-year Rasika Anandakumar, who did not compete in the fall semester, will see action for the Spartans. Overall, the team went 78-28 (.736) during the fall season in singles matches and 44-16 (.733) in doubles matches.
The Spartans have 10 matches scheduled against teams ranked in the ITA preseason national top 40. After taking on Hope, Case Western Reserve will face Rochester on February 14 and 30th-ranked Denison on February 15 at home. The team will take a trip to Lexington, Virginia, for matches against 19th-ranked Washington & Lee and 22nd-ranked Swarthmore, before a home date with St. Mary's College on February 27. The Spartans will then take on four consecutive ranked opponents, playing 11th-ranked Trinity on March 1, 24th-ranked Christopher Newport on March 20, 17th-ranked Williams on March 21, and seventh-ranked Johns Hopkins on March 22. The team ends the month by traveling to Ada, Ohio, to take on Ohio Northern.
Case Western Reserve will face 16th-ranked Kenyon on April 4 at home before celebrating its graduating members for Senior Day on April 11 against John Carroll. The squad wraps up the regular season with a visit from 12th-ranked Carnegie Mellon the following day.
The Spartans will be in Altamonte Springs, Florida, from April 24-26 for the 2026 UAA Championships. In addition to CWRU and Carnegie Mellon, the conference also features nationally top-ranked WashU, second-ranked Chicago, fourth-ranked Emory, 23rd-ranked Brandeis, 24th-ranked NYU, and Rochester. CWRU is hoping for its fourth all-time team berth in the NCAA Championship, which begins with the First Round on May 8 at campus sites. The national team quarterfinals, semifinals, and championship as well as the singles and doubles championships will be held in Chattanooga, Tennessee, from May 18-25.
