Kassaie, Wang Advance to Second Day of NCAA Individual Championships

The duo earned All-America honors with a win in the doubles draw

Senior Katalina Wang and graduate student Hannah Kassaie advanced to the quarterfinals of the NCAA Division III Women's Tennis Doubles Championship on Friday at the Champions Tennis Club in Chattanooga, Tennessee.

The Spartan partnership defeated Kaya De Bruijn and Karina Elvestrom of Gustavus Adolphus College in the round of 16 by a score of 6-2, 6-1. With the win, the duo secured All-America honors with Kassaie notching the seventh of her career and Wang receiving her second all-time honor. The pairing improved to 13-0 as a doubles partnership this season with Wang moving to 25-7 in doubles play and Kassaie going to 14-0 in doubles matches in 2026. Wang's 25 doubles wins are one shy of the single season program record set by Kassaie in 2023-24.

The quarterfinals berth matches the furthest a Spartan doubles pairing has advanced in the national championship, equaling the run of Wang and Lily McCloskey in 2025, Kassaie and McCloskey in 2022, and Nithya Kanagasegar and Madeleine Paolucci in 2018.

In singles play, Wang fell to top-seeded Matia Cristiani of Babson 3-6, 5-7. She ended the season with a singles record of 22-5 and finished her four-year career as a Spartan with a record of 62-32, the third-most singles wins in program history. She was making her first career appearance in the national singles draw and second all-time appearance at the NCAA Individual Championships.

Kassaie took down Addison Felts of Mary Washington in the singles round of 32 7-5, 6-7 (2-7), 6-2 before withdrawing from her round of 16 match later in the day. She ended the year with a singles record of 11-4 and finished her career as a Spartan with a mark of 79-15. Her 79 career singles wins are 14 more than any other player in CWRU history. By virtue of winning her first match, Kassaie earned her eighth career All-America honor. She has been recognized nationally for her singles and doubles play during all four of her collegiate seasons.
