Kassaie, Wang End Run in NCAA Doubles Quarterfinals

The partnership of graduate student Hannah Kassaie and senior Katalina Wang of the Case Western Reserve University women's tennis team ended its run in the quarterfinal round of the 2026 NCAA Division III Women's Tennis Doubles Championship on Saturday at Championship Tennis Club in Chattanooga, Tennessee.

The Spartan duo, unseeded in the 16-pairing draw, faced the second-seeded duo of Lindsay Eisenman and Rebecca Kong from Claremont-Mudd-Scripps Colleges, falling in two sets 3-6, 5-7.

By virtue of reaching the quarterfinal round, both Kassaie and Wang earned All-America honors for their doubles play. Kassaie finishes her career with eight all-time honors and Wang receives her second national recognition.

The run to the quarterfinals matches the furthest ever by a CWRU pair at the NCAA Doubles Championship. Wang (2025) and Kassaie (2022) each advanced to the round with Lily McCloskey, and Nithya Kanagasegar and Madeleine Paolucci were the first Spartan partnership to achieve the feat in 2018.

The teams traded the first four points in the first set before the Athenas won the next three points to take a 5-2 lead. The Spartans broke the CMS serve to stay alive in the set before falling in the next game to drop the opening stanza.

Kassaie and Wang broke two of the first three serves by Eisenman and Kong to start the second set, opening a 4-1 lead. The CMS duo responded with back-to-back games to cut the deficit to one before the Spartans held serve to gain a 5-3 edge. The Athenas held serve twice and broke the Spartan serve twice over the next four games to claim the set 7-5 and the match.

Kassaie and Wang end the 2026 season with a record of 13-1 as a doubles pairing with Wang ending the campaign at 25-8 in doubles play and Kassaie going 14-1 in doubles matches. Wang finished her career with a 75-32 mark in doubles contests, the fourth-most victories in program history, and an overall record of 137-64, the third-most wins by a Spartan ever. Kassaie ended her career with the second-most doubles wins (77) and best doubles winning percentage (.828) in program history with a 77-16 overall mark. Across singles and doubles play, she set the record for wins with 156 and winning percentage with an overall mark of 156-31 (.834).

Case Western Reserve competed at the NCAA Individual Championships for the 11th consecutive season. The program has had two All-Americans in each of the past five seasons and at least one All-American every year since 2018. Overall, the team finished the season with a dual record of 13-7 (.650), a singles record of 145-68 (.681) and a doubles mark of 85-34 (.714).
