Katalina Wang Earns Academic All-America First Team Honors

Senior Katalina Wang of the Case Western Reserve University women's tennis team was named to the College Sports Communicators Academic All-America First Team, the organization announced on Tuesday.

Wang earned the national honor for the first time in her career and joins teammate Hannah Kassaie (2023, 2024) and former Spartans Lily McCloskey (2023, 2024, 2025) and Madeleine Paolucci (2021) as Academic All-America honorees for the CWRU women's tennis team. All four student-athletes were named to the First Team.

A total of 128 CWRU student-athletes from all varsity teams have garnered 189 Academic All-America honors since the program's inception.

Wang earned her second career All-America honor this season for her doubles play. She qualified for the NCAA Division III Doubles Championship for the second consecutive season, advancing to the quarterfinal round with Kassaie last month. She went 25-8 this season in doubles action, ending her four-year career with a 75-32 mark in doubles contests, the fourth-most victories in program history. Wang also qualified for the NCAA Division III Singles Championship, ending the year with a record of 22-5 in singles contests. She compiled a 62-32 all-time mark in singles matches, the third-most wins in program history. Wang's overall record of 137-64 represents the third-most victories ever for a Spartan.

This season, she was named to the All-University Athletic Association First Team for her play at first doubles and All-UAA Second Team for her performance at second singles. Wang also earned All-UAA Second Team honors in 2023 for second doubles.

Wang graduated from CWRU with a degree in cognitive science with a 3.797 cumulative grade point average. She earned UAA All-Academic honors in each of her three seasons and was a two-time CSC Academic All-District honoree.

To be eligible for Academic All-America consideration for tennis, a student-athlete must maintain a cumulative GPA of 3.50 on a scale of 4.00, have reached sophomore athletic and academic standings, be selected to an Academic All-District team, and compete in at least 75 percent of competitions with team scoring.

The CSC Academic All-America program separately recognizes women's tennis honorees in four divisions — NCAA Division I, NCAA Division II, NCAA Division III, and NAIA. The Division III CSC Academic All-America programs are partially financially supported by the NCAA Division III national governance structures to assist CSC with handling the awards fulfillment aspects for the 2025-26 Division III Academic All-America programs.

The CWRU women's tennis team reached the second round of the 2026 NCAA Division III Women's Tennis Championship for the fourth time in program history. The Spartans finished the season with a dual record of 13-7.
