Mahenthiran & Hishinuma Named CSC Academic All-Americans

Case Western Reserve University seniors Ajay Mahenthiran and Casey Hishinuma were each named to the College Sports Communicators Academic All-America Men's Tennis Team for their academic and athletic achievements during the 2024-25 season and over their collegiate careers. Mahenthiran was named to the first team while Hishinuma secured second team recognition.

Since the inception of the program, 123 CWRU student-athletes have earned 180 Academic All-America selections, including six Spartan student-athletes so far this year. CWRU men's tennis players have now won 16 Academic All-America honors all-time, including nine since 2023.

This was the second straight season that Mahenthiran has been named an Academic All-American after securing a spot on the first team last year as well, as he joined former Spartans James Drougas (1984 and 1985), CJ Krimbill (2014 and 2016), Matthew Chen (2020 and 2021), Vishwa Aduru (2023 and 2024), and
Ansh Shah (2023 and 2024) as the program's only multiple-time Academic All-America honorees. Mahenthiran, Aduru, Sahil Dayal (2024), Drougas (1984 and 1985) and Krimbill (2016) are the only first-team honorees in the program's history.

Mahenthiran has a perfect 4.0 cumulative GPA during his time at CWRU and was recently named the Elite 90 Award winner at the NCAA Division III Championship. He notched an 18-10 record as the team's no. 1 singles player and was 25-13 overall in singles matches. He added a 22-6 mark in doubles contests during the year, including a 15-4 mark in the third position. Mahenthiran is ranked 11th nationally and fifth regionally in singles play and was named to the All-UAA First Team for his play at no. 1 singles.

Hishinuma recently wrapped up his career as a Spartan with a 93-24 career singles record, the second-most singles victories in program history, while going 48-19 over his career in doubles matches. He led all CWRU players this year with a 30-7 singles record, including a 19-2 mark in fifth singles matches, and was 26-11 in doubles play, where he was ranked 13th nationally and fifth regionally with Devaraj. Hishinuma claimed All-UAA First Team honors for his play at no. 1 doubles. He graduated from CWRU as a mechanical engineering major with a 3.735 cumulative GPA.

The 2024-25 Academic All-America Men's Tennis Team, selected by CSC, recognizes the nation's top student-athletes for their combined performances on the court and in the classroom. The CSC Academic All-America program separately recognizes men's tennis honorees in four divisions — NCAA Division I, NCAA Division II, NCAA Division III, and NAIA.

The Division III CSC Academic All-America program is partially financially supported by the NCAA Division III national governance structure to assist CSC with handling the awards fulfillment aspects for the 2024-25 Division III Academic All-America programs.

CWRU reached the National Championship for the fourth time in the last five years in 2025, placing second at the NCAA Division III Championship in Claremont, California. The Spartans ended the season with a 29-6 overall record and won the UAA Championship for the second time in program history.
