Track and Field Travels to BW, Allegheny for Two Meets

The Case Western Reserve University men's and women's track and field teams competed in their penultimate competitions of the regular season on Thursday and Friday, traveling Meadville, Pennsylvania, for the Marty Goldberg Gator Invitational hosted by Allegheny College and Berea, Ohio, for the Harrison Dillard Twilight hosted by Baldwin Wallace University.

CWRU sent a contingent of throwers to Allegheny on Thursday. Sophomore thrower Toby Langsner won the hammer throw with a toss of 45.59 meters and placed fourth in the shot put with a heave of 12.72 meters.

Members of the Spartan women's team placed in the top five in three of the throwing events. Senior Lauren Roskuszka was third in the hammer throw (48.07 meters) and fifth in the discus throw (35.15 meters). Graduate students Michaela Burkhauser and Ailean Duffie placed third and fourth, respectively in the discus and hammer throws with marks of 42.79 meters and 47.83 meters. In the javelin throw, first-year Sarah Viveiros placed third with a toss of 38.94 meters, and junior Madison Martinez finished fifth with a mark of 33.09 meters.

Burkhauser also placed in the top five at BW, finishing fourth in the shot put with a toss of 13.26 meters.

On the track, junior runner Lauren Iagnemma won the 5,000-meter run in 17:03.07, the third-fastest time in program history and 38th-best time in Division III this season. Junior runner Ayla Grabenbauer was fourth to cross the line in the 3,000-meter steeplechase in 11:22.29, and junior runner Julia Hluck ran the eighth-best time in the 1500-meter run by a Spartan ever with a time of 4:45.69. Senior runner Hans Holst recorded the third-best time in program history in the 800-meter run, crossing the line at 1:53.24.

First-year jumper Pierre-Andre Geoffrion had a season-best mark in the long jump, leaping 6.71 meters which ranks ninth in program history.

The Spartans will have one final opportunity to qualify for the 2025 NCAA Division III Outdoor Track and Field Championships when the team travels to Alliance, Ohio, on Thursday, May 15 for the Mount Union Final Qualifier.

  • Heading into action on Friday, Burkhauser ranked 16th in Division III in the discus throw with her mark of 45.06 meters from the conference championships. The top 22 individuals in each event earn an invitation to the national championships at the end of the month
  • Viveiros ranks sixth in program history with her toss in the javelin throw
