On the third day of the 2025 NCAA Division III Men's and Women's Swimming and Diving Championships, the Case Western Reserve University men's and women's swimming and diving teams secured nine All-America honors at the Greensboro Aquatic Center in Greensboro, North Carolina on Friday.
Junior John Drumm earned his first career All-America First Team selection by placing eighth in the 200 Fly in 1:48.96. It marked the second consecutive season he received All-America honors in the event after placing 15th to receive Second Team honors last season. The eighth-place finish is the best by a Spartan in the event since Jay Gindin placed second in 1993. Drumm qualified for the A Final with a time of 1:47.02 in the prelims.
In the timed finals of the 800 Free Relay junior Claire Kozma, senior Angeli Paull, sophomore Maggie Rose Rook, and senior Gabriella Chambers combined for a time of 7:32.06 after qualifying with a time of 7:31.59. The quartet placed 14th to secure All-America Second Team honors in the event for the second year in a row. It marked the seventh career All-America recognition for Kozma (second at this championship), sixth for Chambers (second of the championship), third for Paull, and second for Rook.
The men's 800 Free Relay of Drumm, junior Mason Bencurik, senior Griffin Gushman, and senior Peter Meng also earned All-America Second Team honors, placing 15th in the event in 6:42.91. It marked the fifth time CWRU placed in the top 16 nationally in the race. The Spartan quartet qualified for the national championship with a school record time of 6:36.78. Drumm earned his third career All-America honors (second of the championship), and Meng picked up his fifth career All-America selection (third at this year's championship). Bencurik and Gushman were named All-Americans for the first time in their careers.
The 200 Medley Relay of Kozma, Chambers, senior Simone Vale, and senior Kate Menzer placed 23rd with a season-best time of 1:46.04. In the 100 Back, junior Emil LaSida placed 25th with a season-best time of 49.54 seconds.
The national championships conclude on Saturday with preliminary action beginning at 10 a.m. and finals scheduled for 6 p.m. CWRU will compete in the 100 Free, 400 Free Relay, 1650 Free, and 3-meter dive.
Spartan Notes
- After three days of competition, the Spartan men's team ranks 29th out of 48 scoring schools with 22.0 points
- The Case Western Reserve women's team ranks 17th out of 36 scoring schools with 33.0 points heading into the final day of competition
- Drumm became the fourth member of the CWRU men's swimming team to earn multiple All-America honors in the 200 Fly, joining Gindin, John Bradshaw (1989, 1988), and Tom Robinson (1981, 1980)
- The Spartans earned All-America honors in the women's 800 Free Relay for the sixth time in program history
- CWRU placed in the top 16 in both the men's and women's 800 Free Relays for just the second time in program history after also achieving the feat at the 2002 championships
- Kozma's seven career All-America honors are eighth most in program history, and Chambers is tied for ninth in program history with six All-America selections. Both will be competing in the 100 Free and 400 Free Relay on Saturday
- Meng's five All-America selections are tied for the sixth most in program history. He will be swimming in the 1650 Free on Saturday, his final career event
