The Case Western Reserve University women's basketball team's 2024-25 season came to a close on Saturday afternoon with a 70-46 loss to Carnegie Mellon University in Pittsburgh.
The Spartans ended their season with a 7-18 overall record, including a 2-12 mark in University Athletic Association games, while the Tartans improved to 20-5 with a 10-4 league record.
Sophomore guard Mya Hartjes led the Spartans with 15 points and added six rebounds, three assists, and two steals. Sophomore forward Maura Schorr collected a team-high 13 rebounds, the most in a game in her career. Appearing in the final games of their collegiate careers, senior guard Nyah Moore scored nine points and senior forward Evie Miller added eight points, seven rebounds, two steals, and two blocks.
CWRU led by as many as six points in the opening quarter of the game, going ahead 13-7 on a three by junior guard/forward Emily Plachta with 3:49 left in the first. However, Carnegie Mellon scored the final six points of the quarter to tie the game by the end of the frame and scored the first seven points of the second period to go ahead 20-13. Carnegie Mellon went on to outscore the Spartans 22-11 in the second quarter and took a 35-24 lead into halftime.
CWRU closed the gap to seven points, 36-29, with 7:25 left in the third, but the Tartans increased their lead to 15, 46-31, with 2:55 to go in the period. Four unanswered points to end the third from first-year guard Mila Rossini trimmed the Tartans' lead to 11 heading into the fourth, but Carnegie Mellon put CWRU away in the fourth period, outscoring the Spartans 24-11 in the stanza to close out the win.
The Spartans made 16-of-64 shots (25.0%) in the game, including seven-of-29 (24.1%) from long range.
Saturday's game concludes the 2024-25 season for the Spartans.

Miller finished the 2024-25 season with 60 blocks, the second-most in a season in program history. Her 127 career blocks rank as the fourth-most in team history.
