Led by a group of emerging veteran leaders, the Case Western Reserve University women's basketball team finished the 2025-26 campaign with 11 wins.
The Spartans finished the season with an 11-14 overall record, marking a four-victory improvement over the team's total from the previous season. Included in the team's overall record was a 4-10 mark in University Athletic Association games, tying the squad for sixth place in the ever-competitive league.
CWRU averaged 65.0 points per game, ranking fourth in the conference, in large part due to the team's prowess outside the perimeter. The Spartans averaged 7.6 made three-pointers per game, the second-most in the UAA and 29th among all NCAA Division III teams during the 2025-26 season. The team also ranked second in the league in turnovers forced per game (16.16), turnover margin (+1.4), and offensive rebounds per game (15.0). CWRU was 11-5 against unranked teams during the year.
Junior guard Mya Hartjes turned in another outstanding season for the Spartans, cementing her role as one of the top guards in the conference after earning a spot on the All-UAA First Team. She totaled 389 points (15th in program history), averaging 15.6 points per game with 6.6 rebounds and a UAA-best 4.0 assists. Her 55 three-pointers made were tied for the fourth-most ever by a Spartan, while her 41.0% shooting from beyond the arc was the second-highest in team history and 12th among all Division III players. Senior guard/forward Emily Plachta, an All-UAA Second Team honoree, led the squad with 15.7 points per game, and her 393 total points were tied for the 11th-most in team history. She also paced the team with 1.3 blocks per game and registered 7.0 rebounds, 1.3 assists, and 1.2 steals per contest. Junior forward Maura Schorr added a post presence for the Spartans, securing an All-UAA honorable mention after leading the team with 7.4 rebounds and 1.9 steals per game with 11.2 points per contest.
Junior guard Jordyn Call started 24 games and played in all 25 during the year, adding 7.2 points per contest, while senior Maya Roberts played in 18 games and made 16 starts, averaging 4.0 points and 2.3 rebounds. Junior forward Biz Watson (3.6 ppg, 6.0 rpg, 1.4 apg, 1.6 spg) and senior guard Emi Hutter-DeMarco (0.5 ppg, 1.0 rpg, 0.7 apg) each played in all 25 games for CWRU, while sophomore guards Taylor Angielski (4.4 ppg, 1.7 rpg) and Mila Rossini (0.8 ppg, 1.6 rpg, 0.7 apg) were also factors off the bench throughout the campaign.
The Spartans got off to a quick start during the campaign, winning their first three games and five of their first six contests. CWRU opened play at the MSOE STEM Classic in Milwaukee, claiming an 81-33 win over Rose-Hulman and a 58-31 victory against Claremont-Mudd-Scripps. Plachta was named the tournament's Most Valuable Player after averaging 21.5 points over the two contests.
CWRU went on to beat Adrian in its home opener, before dropping an overtime contest on the road to Capital. However, the Spartans responded with back-to-back wins, improving to 5-1 overall following a 41-point home victory over Thiel and a road win at Bethany. However, back-to-back losses to Marietta and Denison (the eventual National Champions) dropped the Spartans to 5-3 for the campaign. CWRU wrapped-up 2025 with a win over Oberlin and a loss to 23rd-ranked Baldwin Wallace at the BW Invitational, as Hartjes and Plachta each claimed all-tournament acclaim. A home win over Geneva pushed CWRU's record to 7-4 heading into conference play.
CWRU opened its UAA schedule with a 63-48 win at Carnegie Mellon, but followed that with seven consecutive setbacks (five of which were against nationally-ranked teams). Schorr helped the Spartans break the streak by hitting the game-winning shot and blocking a buzzer-beater in a 72-69 win against Brandeis at home. CWRU ended its campaign on a high note, besting Rochester 63-50 and Carnegie Mellon 68-59 at home. Playing on Senior Day in the final game of her career, Plachta registered a career-high 31 points in the win over the Tartans.
The win over Rochester also contained some milestone achievements for the Spartans, as Plachta surpassed 1,000 points for her career and Head Coach Jennifer Reimer won her 200th game at the Spartans' helm during the contest.
In addition to the team's success on the court, several players were recognized for their academic achievements. Four members of the team – Call, Hartjes, Plachta, and Watson – were selected to the College Sports Communicators Academic All-District Team, while nine members of the team – Angielski, Call, Hartjes, Hutter-DeMarco, sophomore guard/forward Lauren Ludwig, Plachta, Roberts, Rossini, and Watson – received UAA Winter All-Academic honors.
