The Case Western Reserve University men's swimming and diving team set a school record in the 800 Free Relay on the first day of the 2025 University Athletic Association Championships hosted by Emory University at the Madeleine Jude Brown Aquatic Center in Atlanta on Wednesday.
The relay consisted of junior Mason Bencurik, senior Griffin Gushman, senior Peter Meng, and junior John Drumm and swam a school-record time of 6:36.78 to place fourth in the A Final. The Spartan quartet broke their own record of 6:41.58 set earlier this season at the Total Performance Invite. The time also was an NCAA B Cut.
The 800 Free Relay of the CWRU women's swimming and diving team placed fifth with a time of 7:31.59. Junior Claire Kozma, senior Angeli Paull, sophomore Maggie Rose Rook, and senior Gabriella Chambers secured an NCAA B Cut with the time.
Earlier in the evening, senior Nico Billoni placed sixth in the final of the 1-meter dive with a score of 400.75. He qualified for the final with a prelim score of 397.25. Sophomore Jack Rudofsky, who placed 11th with a score of 370.80, and senior Alex Waltman, who placed 12th with a score of 349.55, also competed in the preliminary round.
The conference championships will continue on Thursday with the 200 Free Relay, 500 Free, 200 IM, 50 Free, 400 Medley Relay, and women's 3-meter dive. Preliminary races begin at 10 a.m. with finals scheduled to start at 5:30 p.m.

- The CWRU men's team entered the meet ranked 12th in Division III by the CSCAA, and the Spartan women's team began the meet ranked 16th in the country
- Other nationally ranked men's teams included Emory (second), NYU (third), Chicago (fourth), Carnegie Mellon (sixth), and WashU (14th)
- Other nationally ranked women's teams included Emory (first), NYU (fifth), Chicago (sixth), Carnegie Mellon (14th), and WashU (15th)
- After one day of competition, the Spartan men's team is third in the overall standings with 133 points, and the CWRU women's team is fifth in the team standings with 78 points. NYU has the top-scoring men's (145 points) and women's (104 points) teams so far
