Case Western Reserve University inducted 78 members into the 2025 Van Horn Society, which recognizes student-athletes at the University who have recorded a cumulative grade point average of 3.8 or higher and are in the third year or later of their academic career at the University.
Of the 78 inductees, 35 were honored for a second or third time, while 25 have achieved a perfect 4.0 cumulative grade point average at CWRU. The 78 honorees represent approximately 37% of CWRU athletes eligible for the award by academic year.
The honorees were recognized at the tenth annual induction ceremony on Monday, December 8, in the Adelbert Hall Atrium. Speakers at the event included CWRU President Eric W. Kaler and James C. Wyant Director of Athletics TJ Shelton.
Previously known as the CWRU Scholar-Athlete Award, the honor was renamed in recognition of Spartan Club Hall of Fame member Dr. Frank R. Van Horn, who served as the Athletic Director at the Case Institute of Technology from 1900-1926 and helped to build the foundation of the athletic program. His accomplishments include hiring the first football coach in program history, building a football stadium (later named in his honor), and fundraising to build a facility that enabled Case to begin varsity programs for basketball, swimming, and wrestling.
