Box Score The Case Western Reserve University women's tennis team performed well at the Big Red Invitational on Saturday and Sunday, hosted by Denison University at the Denison Tennis Courts in Granville, Ohio.
The Spartans dropped just four matches over the two days of competition against the host school, Otterbein University, Centre College, and Ohio Northern University. CWRU went 23-1 (.958) in singles play and 9-3 (.750) in doubles play for a combined record of 32-4 (.889). Seven members of the team did not drop a match at the invitational.
Spartans who did not suffer a loss included senior Lily McCloskey, juniors Elsa Syed and Katalina Wang, sophomore Kareena Sivanesan, and first-years Yasemin Bilgin, Maya Brink, and Sara Fernandez.
McCloskey went 2-0 in singles play and paired with Wang to defeat an ONU and a Denison pairing in doubles play. Junior Asha Shukla won both of her singles matches and won 6-1 with graduate student Laurel Utterback over Ohio Northern's Caroline Robinson and Jenna Bell. Syed also earned two singles wins and secured two victories in doubles play with Brink. In addition to the doubles victory, Wang and Brink both won both of their singles matches. The Sivanesan and Bilgin partnership earned a 7-5 win over Taylor Allen and Molly McLane of Ohio Northern. Sivanesan added two singles victories, and Bilgin won once in singles play and once with junior Ellior Rose in doubles play.
Sophomore Katie Wong paired with senior Anna Kan to defeat Miranda Wills and Lauren Okrainec of ONU in doubles play and earned a singles victory over Otterbein's Lillia Walter. Fernandez won a team-high three singles matches over the weekend and added a 6-1 doubles victory with sophomore Prachi Shah over Taryn Simmers and Breanna Ball of Otterbein. Kan (2-0), Rose (2-0), and Shah (1-0) were all undefeated in singles play during the weekend.
The Spartans will travel to Kalamazoo, Michigan, for the ITA Regional Championship hosted by Kalamazoo College from Friday, September 27 to Sunday, September 29.

- McCloskey moved into sole possession of second place on the CWRU career doubles wins list, improving her record 67-18 over four seasons. Former Spartan Nithya Kanagasegar holds the program record with 76 career doubles wins
- Kan increased her career singles wins total to 43, moving into a tie for 13th place in program history with McCloskey and former Spartan Jessica Liu
- Bilgin made her collegiate debut during the invitational, picking up her first career singles and doubles wins in Granville. Fernandez earned her first collegiate singles and doubles wins
