#4 Men’s Tennis Sweeps #41 Rochester 9-0

The fourth-ranked Case Western Reserve University men's tennis team completed an undefeated weekend with a 9-0 win over the 41st-ranked University of Rochester at the Mayfield Village Racquet Club in Mayfield, Ohio on Saturday night.

The Spartans improved to 19-4 with the win, the team's sixth straight. CWRU also raised its record to 9-2 against ranked Division III opposition this season. Rochester fell to 6-2 with the loss.

CWRU swept doubles play for the fourth-straight match and 14th time overall this season on Saturday. Junior Ansh Shah and sophomore Anmay Devaraj claimed the first win of the day for the Spartans, besting Kavin Shukla and David Riccio 8-2 at third doubles. Seniors Daniel French and Sahil Dayal followed with an 8-3 win at no. 2 doubles against Krish Vennam and Ethan Samora, and senior Vishwa Aduru and graduate student Diego Maza (the second-ranked pairing in the Central Region) put the team ahead 3-0 with an 8-2 win over Kai Yuminaga and Rahul Ravi in the first doubles match.

In singles play, Maza claimed a tidy 6-0, 6-3 win against Riccio at sixth singles, and junior Casey Hishinuma clinched the team victory for the Spartans with a 6-2, 6-2 triumph over Samora.

Adding on to the victory were Shah at fourth singles with a 6-1, 6-2 win against Ravi, senior Michael Sutanto (ranked 16th in the region) at third singles with a 6-3, 6-4 win against Shukla, Aduru (ranked fourth in the region) at second singles with a 6-3, 6-3 win over Yuminaga, and junior Ajay Mahenthiran (ranked fifth in the region) at first singles with a 7-5, 6-2 win over Vennam.

It was CWRU's second straight sweep and its 10th for the campaign.

The Spartans will be back in action on Friday, April 19 with matches against Kalamazoo College at 10:00 a.m. and 13th-ranked Denison at 2:30 p.m. Before the start of the match against Kalamazoo, CWRU will also recognize its graduating players with a Senior Day ceremony.
