Box Score The 19th-ranked Case Western Reserve University women's tennis team began its three-day trip to Fredericksburg, Virginia, for the Blue Gray Invite with a 9-0 win over 29th-ranked Southwestern (Texas) University on Saturday at the Hegmann Family Tennis Complex on the campus of Mary Washington University.
With the win, the Spartans improved to 7-3 on the season. The Pirates dropped to 3-6 overall.
CWRU started the match with three wins in doubles play. Juniors Hannah Kassaie and Lily McCloskey did not drop a point against Mary Young and Erika Synoski, winning 8-0 at first doubles. Senior Pallavi Goculdas and junior Anna Kan followed with an 8-5 win at third doubles over Lydia Lee and Valeria Garcia. Junior Radha Patel and sophomore Katalina Wang completed the sweep with an 8-5 victory at second singles over Kimberly Duncan and Sydney Wahl.
Kassaie continued her perfect day with a 6-0, 6-0, win at first singles over Young, and sophomore Elsa Syed clinched the match with a 6-1, 6-4, victory at sixth singles over Duncan.
Wang bested Lee, 6-4, 6-4, at third singles, followed by a 6-1, 7-5, win by McCloskey over Daryl Locke at second singles. At fifth singles, Patel defeated Wahl, 6-1, 6-3, and Kan completed the sweep with a come-from-behind 3-6, 7-5, 10-7, win at fourth singles over Synoski.
The Spartans will continue play at the Blue Gray Invite on Sunday, facing 26th-ranked Mary Washington at 10 a.m.
