Meng Earns All-America Honorable Mention, Men’s Swim Dive Team Places 33rd at NCAA Championships

Behind an All-America honorable mention for junior swimmer Peter Meng in the 1650 Free on the final day, the Case Western Reserve University men's swimming team placed 33rd in Division III following competition on the fourth and final day of the 2024 NCAA Division III Men's Swimming and Diving Championships at the Greensboro Aquatic Center in Greensboro, North Carolina, on Saturday.

Overall, the Spartans placed 33rd out of 40 scoring teams at the championship, totaling 17.0 points. It marked the first time the CWRU men's team scored at the meet since 2017 and matched its best finish since 2016.

Meng finished 14th in the timed final of the 1650 Free, touching the wall at 15:45.69, to receive his second career All-America honor and first career All-America honorable mention. He is the first Spartan to place in the event since Drew Hamilton finished 15th in 2015 and fifth-ever Spartan to be named an All-American in the event. The 14th-place finish is the best for a member of the CWRU men's team since Jake Peterson placed 14th in 2000.

Meng, who two days ago placed seventh in the 400 IM, becomes the first Spartan on the men's swimming and diving team to earn multiple All-America honors at the same championship since Hamilton was a two-time honoree in 2017. His seventh-place finish was the best finish and the first All-America podium finish for a male Spartan swimmer in any event since 2006 (Pat Rodjom, sixth, 100 Breast).

Sophomore swimmer John Drumm also scored for CWRU at the meet, placing 15th in the 200 Fly on Friday to receive All-America honorable mention. Case Western Reserve had multiple members of its team score for the first time in eight years.

Combined with the Spartan women's swimming and diving team, 11 Case Western Reserve student-athletes received All-America honors at the 2024 NCAA Championships, matching a program record previously set in 2002 and 2001.
