Box Score The 19th-ranked Case Western Reserve University women's tennis team started its spring break trip with a hard-fought 5-4 loss to 16th-ranked host Trinity University at the Butch Newman Tennis Center in San Antonio on Sunday.
With the loss, the Spartans fell to 5-2 on the year. The Tigers remained unbeaten during the 2023-24 campaign, improving to 7-0.
CWRU won two of the three doubles contests to start the match. At first doubles, juniors Hannah Kassaie and Lily McCloskey defeated Ruth Hill and Olivia Kim 8-5. At third doubles, junior Anna Kan and senior Pallavi Goculdas earned an 8-4 win over Ellie Hughes and Bella Andrade. In the second doubles contest, sophomore Katalina Wang and junior Radha Patel fell to Trinity Levy and Cate Cushing 8-6.
The Spartans began singles play with a victory, as Kassaie defeated Hill 6-1, 6-1 at first singles to give the team a 3-1 lead. Kim brought the Tigers within one with a win at fourth singles, and Levy evened the score at three with a victory at fourth singles. A 6-0, 7-5 victory at fifth singles by Andrade and a retirement due to injury at sixth singles helped the hosts clinch the match.
McCloskey ended the match with a 1-6, 6-2, 6-2, win at second singles over Hughes.
The team continues their Texas trip on Monday with a matchup against 31st-ranked Skidmore on the campus of Trinity at 4:00 p.m. ET.
