The 13th-ranked Case Western Reserve University women's swimming and diving team and 15th-ranked Spartan men's team swept SUNY Geneseo on Saturday at the Flickinger Aquatic Center in Buffalo, New York. The women's team prevailed 187.5-112.5 over the 21st-ranked Knights and the men's team won 162-136 over 19th-ranked Geneseo.
Each CWRU team improved to 4-0 in dual meets on the season, while each SUNY Geneseo team fell to 5-1 during the 2023-24 campaign.
The Spartans combined to win 19 events in the dual with the women's team claiming 11 victories and the men's team earning eight.
Junior Gabriella Chambers helped the team win three events, earning two individual victories and one with a relay. She touched the wall first in both the 100 and 200 Free races, finishing the shorter swim in 52.98 seconds and the longer swim in 1:57.12. Chambers teamed with sophomores Eliza Dixon and Claire Kozma and junior Kelly Vann to place first in the 200 Free Relay with a time of 1:38.07. Kozma tied for first in the 100 Fly at 59.12 seconds, the exact millisecond time as Alise Hale from SUNY Geneseo.
Junior Erica Rice added a pair of wins, claiming the 100 Back in 1:00.36 and the 200 Breast in 2:32.42. Junior Elishka Bailey helped the team sweep the backstroke events with a win in the 200 Back, finishing the race in 2:08.81. In the 500 Free, first-year swimmer Maggie Rose Rook placed first with a time of 5:18.88, and in the 200 IM, junior Kate Menzer won in 2:12.63.
CWRU women won both diving events as junior Abigail Wilkov claimed the 1-meter dive with a six-dive score of 268.30 and junior Jocelyn Schechter won the 3-meter dive with a score of 283.75.
For the men's team, junior Peter Meng earned three of the team's first place finishes. Meng won the 200 Free in 1:46.18, the 500 Free in 4:50.17, and the 200 IM in 1:52.19. Senior Ethan Chuang swept the breaststroke events, placing first in the 100 Breast in 58.28 seconds and first in the 200 Breast in 2:10.27.
Adding wins for the men's team were sophomore Emil LaSida in the 100 Back (50.96 seconds), senior Sean Yetter in the 1000 Free (9:58.80), and sophomore John Drumm in the 100 Fly (52.47 seconds).
The Spartans will next host Oberlin College for a dual meet on Saturday at the Veale Natatorium. Prior to the dual, which is scheduled to start at 1 p.m., the teams will honor their graduating members as part of Senior Day.
