The 12th-ranked Case Western Reserve University women's tennis team defeated Sweet Briar University 9-0 on Saturday afternoon at the Mayfield Village Racquet Club in Mayfield, Ohio, to celebrate Senior Day with a win.
With the victory, the Spartans improved to 9-3 on the season, while the Vixens fell to 11-4.
CWRU started the day with a sweep of the doubles matches. At first doubles, sophomores Hannah Kassaie and Lily McCloskey defeated Ruth de Souza and Allison Wandling 8-3, and sophomore Radha Patel and first-year Katalina Wang prevailed over Sofia Andrade and Ana Patino by the same score at second doubles. Seniors Nina Hoog and Shreya Ramani completed the sweep with an 8-4 win over Isabela Guilarte and Maria Caro at third doubles.
Kassaie started singles play with a 6-1, 6-1 win over de Souza at first singles, and Patel clinched the win with a 6-2, 6-0 win over Kate Kotany at third singles. Wang added to the lead with a 6-2, 6-3 win at fourth singles over Andrade, and sophomore Anna Kan scored the seventh team point with a 7-5, 6-2 win at fifth singles over Nikhita Simhambhalta. At second singles, McCloskey won in three sets, besting Wandling 6-2, 1-6, 10-8. Ramani finished the match with a 6-1, 6-7 (3-7), 10-8 win over Guilarte at sixth singles.
Prior to the match, the Spartans celebrated Ramani and Hoog, the team's two graduating players, as part of a Senior Day celebration. CWRU will play two matches tomorrow at the LaTuchie Tennis Center in Stow, Ohio, facing #29 Denison at 12:45 p.m. and Allegheny at 4:45 p.m.
