Box Score The Case Western Reserve University women's basketball team suffered an 82-44 loss to seventh-ranked New York University on Sunday afternoon at Horsburgh Gymnasium in Cleveland.
The loss dropped the Spartans to 13-7 overall, including a 4-5 mark in University Athletic Association play. NYU improved to 17-2 overall with a 7-2 UAA ledger.
Senior guard/forward Isabella Mills led all Spartans with 11 points in the game, shooting four-of-nine overall and three-of-five from long range. Junior guard Sarah Mitchell added eight points and three assists, and first-year guard Maya Roberts finished the game with six points and five rebounds.
Although the Violets led nearly wire-to-wire on Sunday, CWRU kept the game close early, trailing by just two after a three-point shot by Mills made the score 19-17 with 1:01 left in the first, and headed into the second quarter down four, 21-17. The Spartans were down just three, 25-22, with 7:46 left in the half before the Violets closed out the period on a 21-4 run to take a 20-point lead, 46-26, into the second half.
NYU outscored CWRU 25-12 in the third quarter to extend its lead further before closing out the game in the fourth for the 38-point win.
The Spartans will wrap up their 2022-23 home schedule next weekend against 18th-ranked Rochester on Friday night and Emory on Sunday afternoon. Prior to Sunday's game, the Spartans will recognize their two graduating senior players – Mills and Claire Poulton – with a 'Senior Day' ceremony prior to the start of the game.
