Men's Swimming and Diving

Swimming & Diving Sweeps SUNY Geneseo

The Case Western Reserve University men's and women's swimming and diving teams swept SUNY Geneseo in a dual meet on Saturday at the Veale Natatorium in Cleveland. The #15 Spartan men's team defeated the #18 Knights 162-138, and the #18 Spartan women's team won 178-122 over the Knights.

With the wins, both CWRU teams improved to 3-1 on the season, while both Geneseo teams fell to 6-1 with the losses.

Case Western Reserve combined for 16 wins in the 32 events, with the women's team winning nine events and the men's team winning seven.

Sophomore Gabriella Chambers contributed to a third of her team's wins, sweeping the freestyle events and contributing a win in the 200 Free Relay. Chambers won the 100 Free in 53.10 seconds and the 200 Free in 1:57.51. She teamed with first-year Eliza Dixon and sophomores Simone Vale and Adriana Kamor to win the relay in 1:38.70. Kamor added an individual win of her own, edging Alexis Falvo by 0.01 seconds in the 50 Free to take first in 24.63 seconds.

Sophomore Amelia Myhrvold swept the backstroke events for the Spartans. She took first in the 200 Back in 2:08.24 and won the 100 Back in 59.88 seconds. Finishing second in the event was first-year teammate Julia Cho, who touched the wall just 0.03 seconds after Myhrvold.

Case Western Reserve won both diving events with sophomore Abigail Wilkov claiming the 1-meter dive with a score of 279.83 and junior Rei Miyauchi taking the 3-meter dive with a mark of 275.62.

Rounding out the team's wins was a first place finish from senior Maria Pritchett in the 200 IM. She completed the race in 2:11.58, touching the wall just 0.04 seconds before the second place finisher from SUNY Geneseo.

For the men's team, both first-years John Drumm and Emil LaSida contributed to two wins. Drumm swept the butterfly events, placing first in the 100 Fly in 51.03 seconds and winning the 200 Fly in 1:55.11. LaSida added a first place finish in the 100 Back in 51.70 seconds and was a member of the winning 200 Medley Relay, along with junior Ethan Chuang, sophomore Ben Zuo, and senior Campbell Patterson. The relay finished in 1:33.21.

Junior Sean Yetter touched the wall at 9:58.02 in the 1000 Free, claiming a win for Case Western Reserve. In the 200 Back, first-year William Froass placed first in 1:54.82, and in the 500 Free, sophomore Griffin Gushman took first in 4:49.08.

The Spartans will remain at home next Saturday, hosting #1/2 Kenyon for a dual meet at the Veale Natatorium at 1 p.m. The teams will honor their 11 seniors prior to the meet as part of Senior Day.
