Box Score The Case Western Reserve University women's basketball team's five-game winning streak came to an end on Friday night as the team lost 77-50 to #10 University of Rochester at the Louis Alexander Palestra in Rochester, New York.
The Spartans fell to 10-3 on the season and 1-1 in University Athletic Association contests. The Yellowjackets improved to 12-1 overall and 2-0 in the UAA.
Junior forward Kayla Characklis scored a team-leading 12 points, shooting 50.0% from the field (six-of-12), and collected five rebounds in the game. First-year guard Emily Plachta added eight points and three steals, and senior guard/forward Isabella Mills grabbed a team-high seven rebounds while contributing seven points, three assists, and three blocks.
Trailing 14-7 in the middle of the first quarter, CWRU used a quarter-ending 8-2 run to pull within one at the end of the frame. Junior forward Preet Gill created all eight of the team's points during the run, scoring five and assisting on a three-pointer from Mills.
A minute into the second quarter, a layup from junior guard Margaret Terry made the score 19-17 in favor of the hosts. However, the Yellowjackets pulled away for the rest of the period, using a 15-3 run to lead by 14 with two minutes remaining in the first half. Case Western Reserve trailed 38-23 following a jumper by Rochester on the final possession of the second quarter. The hosts led by as many as 29 points in the contest, 75-46 with five minutes left in the game.
Rochester's Katie Titus led all scorers with 26 points in the game. The Spartans forced 13 turnovers with nine steals, including a team-leading three by Plachta.
Case Western Reserve will look to rebound when the team heads to Atlanta on Sunday to finish their weekend UAA road trip, facing Emory at 2 p.m.
