The Case Western Reserve University women's tennis team excelled at the Big Red Invitational in Granville, Ohio on the Denison Tennis Courts over the weekend, continuing a strong fall campaign for the team.
Overall, the Spartans went 23-1 (.958) in singles play and 11-2 (.846) in doubles play. CWRU, Otterbein University, Denison University, and Centre College competed in a "hidden dual" format. On Saturday, Case Western Reserve faced Otterbein and Centre in singles matches and Denison and Otterbein in doubles matches, while on Sunday, the Spartans faced Denison in singles play and Centre in doubles play.
Eight Spartans finished the invitational without a loss, including first-year Ellior Rose (5-0), junior Pallavi Goculdas (4-0), first-year Elsa Syed (4-0), junior Chloe Ku (4-0), sophomore Hannah Kassaie (4-0), sophomore Anna Kan (4-0), senior Nina Hoog (4-0), and first-year Asha Shukla (3-0). Rose and Syed each notched a team-leading three singles wins, while Kan and Hoog won three doubles matches as a partnership, the most on the team.
Sophomore Radha Patel, first-year Katalina Wang, and junior Caitlyn Hsu all went 2-0 in singles play, and sophomore Lily McCloskey added a 2-0 record in doubles play, competing with Kassaie.
Following a week off from competition, the Spartans will wrap up the fall campaign with the ITA Regional Championship in St. Louis, Missouri, held on the campus of Washington University in St. Louis from September 30-October 2.
