The Case Western Reserve University women's tennis team earned its third consecutive 9-0 victory with a win over Kalamazoo College on Friday evening at the Markin Tennis Center in Kalamazoo, Michigan.
With the win, the Spartans improve to 6-0 on the season and push their winning streak to seven matches dating back to last season. The Hornets fall to 0-2.
First-years Hannah Kassaie and Lily McCloskey started the match with an 8-1 win at first doubles over Renee Torres and Sophie Zhuang. Junior Nina Hoog and first-year Madeleine Eiss followed with an 8-1 win at second doubles over Caroline Norton and Maddie Hurley. Completing the sweep were first-year Anna Kan and sophomore Caitlyn Hsu with an 8-4 win at third doubles over Ella Knight and Meghan Killmaster.
Kassaie started singles play with a 6-0, 6-1 win over Norton at first singles, improving to 16-1 on the season. Kan followed with a 6-2, 6-1 win at fourth singles over Hurley. At third singles, first-year Radha Patel clinched the match for the Spartans with a 6-2, 6-0 victory over Zhuang. Sophomore Katherine Wang followed with a 6-0, 6-4 win over Knight at fifth singles, and Hsu did not lose a point at sixth singles, defeating Killmaster 6-0, 6-0.
At second singles, junior Savannah Bright won a thrilling three-set victory to finish the sweep. After dropping the first set to Torres 4-6, Bright rebounded with a 7-5 win in the second set. She then prevailed in 10-2 in the third-set tiebreaker to take the win.
Case Western Reserve continues its weekend road trip on Saturday with a visit to Holland, Michigan to face Hope College. Action will start at 9 a.m.
