Women's Swimming and Diving

Swimming & Diving Sweeps Rochester on the Road

The Case Western Reserve University swimming and diving teams swept the University of Rochester in a dual meet on Saturday at the Speegle-Wilbraham Center in Rochester, New York.

With the wins, the 24th-ranked Spartan men's team and the 18th-ranked Spartan women's team improved to 2-1 in dual meets. Both of the Yellowjacket teams fell to 1-2 in duals.

Of the 32 total events, the women's team won 11 and the men's team won nine. The CWRU women's team prevailed 199-98, and the men's team outscored Rochester 156.5-131.5.

Sophomore swimmer Gabriella Chambers took first place in three events, two as an individual and one as part of a relay. She won the 50-yard freestyle in 24.63 seconds, and the 100 Free in 54.30 seconds. In the 200 Free Relay, Chambers, sophomore swimmers Adriana Kamor and Angeli Paull, and first-year swimmer Eliza Dixon claimed first with a time of 1:40.23.

Senior swimmer Maria Pritchett and sophomore swimmer Elishka Bailey each claimed two wins in the dual. Pritchett won the 200 Free in 1:59.39 and the 200 IM in 2:14.79. Bailey swept the backstroke events, winning the 100 Back in 59.98 seconds and the 200 Back in 2:10.36.

Other event winners for the Spartan women's team included first-year swimmer Allison Ploutz-Snyder (500 Free, 5:25.28), senior swimmer Abby Halsdorfer (1000 Free, 10:52.04), sophomore swimmer Kate Menzer (100 Fly, 59.51 seconds), and sophomore swimmer Selah Dean (200 Fly, 2:16.99).

For the men's team, junior swimmer Ethan Chuang, sophomore swimmer Peter Meng, and first-year swimmer John Drumm won a pair of events. Chuang swept the breaststroke events, placing first in the 100 Breast in 57.70 seconds and first in the 200 Breast in 2:10.96. Meng touched the wall first in the 1000 Free in 9:37.99 and the 200 IM in 1:53.15. Drumm won both butterfly events, finishing the 100 Fly in 52.85 seconds and the 200 Fly in 1:57.58.

Senior swimmer Campbell Patterson placed first in an individual event and as part of a relay. He won the 50 Free in 21.43 seconds and teamed with first-year swimmer Mason Bencurik, senior swimmer Andrew Smith, and sophomore swimmer Ben Zuo to win the 200 Free Relay in 1:26.78. First-year swimmer William Froass added the final Spartan win, placing first in the 100 Back in 52.56 seconds.

Following a week off from competition, the Case Western Reserve swimmers will compete at the Magnus Cup Invite at Cleveland State University and the divers will compete at the CMU Diving Invitational at Carnegie Mellon University from November 17-19 in the teams' final action of the 2022 portion of their schedules.
