The Case Western Reserve University swimming and diving teams dropped a dual meet to Carnegie Mellon University on Saturday at the CMU Pool in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, with the #25 men's team losing 195-103 to the #10 Tartan men's team and the #18 women's team losing 228.5-71.5 to the #12 Tartan women's team.
Both Spartan swimming and diving teams fall to 1-1 in dual meets this season, with both CMU swimming and diving teams improving to 1-0.
For the men's team, sophomore swimmer Peter Meng won two events and placed second in a third event. Meng took first in the 1,000-yard freestyle with a time of 9:56.72 and 500 Free with a time of 4:42.82. He added a second place finish in the 200 IM, finishing in 1:54.53.
First-year swimmers William Froass and Emil LaSida and sophomore swimmer Kevin Hu also won events for the Spartans. LaSida and Froass placed first and second in the 100-yard backstroke, with LaSida finishing in 51.94 seconds and Froass in 52.59 seconds. Froass placed first in the 200 Back with a time of 1:55.71, and Hu won the 200-yard butterfly in 1:56.44.
LaSida, junior swimmer Ethan Chuang, sophomore swimmer Ben Zuo, and senior swimmer Campbell Patterson placed second in the 200 Medley Relay with a time of 1:33.49. Individually, Chuang added a runner-up finish in the 100-yard breaststroke with a time of 58.50 seconds.
For the women's team, senior swimmer Abby Halsdorfer earned a pair of second place finishes. She was the runner-up in the 1000 Free with a time of 10:55.04 and placed second in the 500 Free with a time of 5:18.34.
First-year swimmer Claire Kozma placed second in the 50 Free in 24.94 seconds, and sophomore swimmer Kate Menzer tied for second in the 100 Fly with a time of 59.50 seconds.
The Spartans will look to rebound next Saturday, November 5, when the teams travel to Rochester, New York to face the University of Rochester in a dual meet. Action is slated to begin at 1 p.m.
