The Case Western Reserve University men's tennis team continued its fall season over the weekend, taking part in the Toledo Rocket Invitational from Friday through Sunday, and the Oberlin Invitational on Saturday and Sunday.
Case Western Reserve continued its strong play, finishing the two competitions with a combined singles record of 32-18, and a doubles mark of 26-7.
At the Toledo Rocket Invitational, which featured a hidden dual format with matches against the University of Northwestern Ohio, the University of Chicago, Bellarmine, Toledo and Kenyon, the Spartans totaled a 20-9 record in singles matches and a 12-3 ledger in doubles play. Senior Max Vicario went 4-0 in singles play and won his only doubles match to go undefeated on the weekend. Junior James Hopper went 3-1 in singles play and 4-0 in doubles contests, while sophomore Vishwa Aduru and first-year Ansh Shah each went 3-1 in singles matches as well.
At the Oberlin Invitational on Saturday, the Spartans claimed wins in all three of the doubles flights, with victories from the pairings of junior Chris Provenzano and sophomore Sahil Dayal in the 'A' draw, sophomore Yuvraj Narang and first-year Ajay Mahenthiran in the 'B' draw, and first-year Ben Martin and junior John Kasner in the 'C' draw. All three duos went 3-0 in doubles play over the weekend.
The following day, during round robin singles play, Provenzano, Martin and first-year Casey Hishinuma each went 2-0. As a team, the Spartans finished competition at Oberlin with a 12-9 singles record and a 14-4 doubles mark.
The Spartans will now turn their attention to their key competition of the fall season, the ITA Fall Regional Championships. The event, which will feature the top NCAA Division III singles and doubles competitors in the region, will be hosted by Kalamazoo College in Kalamazoo, Michigan from Friday, October 1 through Sunday, October 3.
