The Case Western Reserve University men's and women's swimming and diving teams put together a dominant performance in their final dual meet of the 2021 portion of their schedule, with the men claiming a 209-91 win and the women a 225-75 victory over the University of Rochester in the Veale Natatorium on Sunday afternoon.
The Spartans women improved to 3-0 on the year following the win, while the men are now 2-1.
The men and women combined to win each of the 28 swimming events at the meet, and 29 of the 32 total events, including diving.
The Spartans first place finish in diving came from first-year Abigail Wilkov in the one-meter dive, with her score of 293.54 good enough to earn qualification for the zone diving meet.
Junior Maria Pritchett won a pair of individual events and a relay on Sunday, finishing first in the 200 free (1:57.41) and 100 fly (59.63) and teaming with first-year Angeli Paull, first-year Simone Vale, and first-year Gabriella Chambers to win the 400-yard freestyle relay (3:38.53). Chambers added two individual wins of her own, claiming first in both the 50 free (24:58) and 100 free (54.12), in addition to being a part of the winning 400 medley relay team with Vale, first-year Madison McDaniels, and first-year Kate Menzer (4:00.39).
Menzer also finished first in a pair of events, topping the standings in both the 200 fly (2:10.93) and 200 IM (2:12.04), while McDaniels notched a first-place finish in the 100 breast (1:09.27). Other first-place finishers for the CWRU women included junior Johanna Pearson in the 1000 free (10:56.57), first-year Selah Dean in the 200 back (2:11.38), first-year Erica Rice in the 100 back (59.12), first-year Ally Solomon in the 200 breast (2:32.32) and junior Abby Halsdorfer in the 500 free (5:19.59).
Senior Kelvin Tay led the way for the men with wins in both backstroke events and the 400 medley relay. He won the 100 back with a time of 53.31 and later claimed a victory in the 200 back in a mark of 1:56.60. Tay teamed with sophomore Ethan Chuang, first-year Ben Zuo and junior Andrew Smith to win the 400 medley relay in a time of 3:32.42.
CWRU also placed first in the 400 free relay, with Smith, first-year Jackson Pollard, first-year Cole Davin and junior Campbell Patterson winning in a time of 3:10.95.
Smith and first-year Peter Meng each added individual wins on Sunday. Smith won the 100 Fly (51.82) and 200 fly (1:56.44), while Meng won the 200 Free (1:42.66) and the 500 Free (4:44.45). Other first place finishers for the Spartan men on Sunday were junior Xander Guerrero in the 1,000 Free (9:50.12), Zuo in the 100 Breast (59.77), senior Calvin Tecson in the 50 Free (21.48), Pollard in the 100 Free (47.58), senior Will Backer in the 200 Breast (2:14.20) and first-year Jasha Heide in the 200 IM (1:58.81).
The Spartans will conclude the 2021 portion of their schedule at the Magnus Cup Invitational at Cleveland State University from Thursday, November 18 through Saturday, November 20.
