Case Western Reserve University junior Jack Begley recorded the fastest 8K time in the program's history on Saturday afternoon at the Mike Woods Invitational at the Geneseo Warplane Museum in Geneseo, New York, helping lead the Spartans to a fourth-place finish out of 33 teams at the meet.
Begley's time of 24:34.7 surpassed the previous program-record mark of 24:36.7, set by current CWRU senior Trey Razanauskas at the Inter-Regional Rumble on October 19, 2019. Begley finished third overall out of 404 runners at Saturday's meet.
Razanauskas was the second finisher for the Spartans, placing 13th with a time of 25:13.8, and senior Logan Singer added a 32nd-place finish with a time of 25:53.7. First-year Aidan Nathan placed 45th overall with a time of 26:07.1, and first-year Niles Tilenius rounded out the team's top-five scoring finishers, placing 51st with a time of 26:10.9.
Completing the Spartans' top seven runners on Saturday were senior Alex Loeper, who finished 62nd with a mark of 26:27.4, and junior Robert St. Clair, who finished 69th with a time of 26:34.4
CWRU finished with a score of 137 points, finishing behind host and fourth-ranked Geneseo (32), 27th-ranked Middlebury (78) and 17th-ranked Otterbein (91). Geneseo's Ezra Ruggles won the men's 8K with a time of 24:10.3.
Other finishers for the Spartans on Saturday included junior Parker Straight (73rd, 26:36.1), junior Liam O'Reilly (85th, 26:49.6), first-year Nate Gilbert (100th, 27:01.1), first-year Hans Holst (102nd, 27:05.8), senior Chris Heermann (103rd, 27:07.8), junior Jacob Conard (114th, 27:16.0), first-year Luke Kishna (117th, 27:19.1), senior Rahul Mikkilineni (140th, 27:44.0), first-year Donald Folk (150th, 27:50.0), sophomore Stephen Henry (164th, 28:02.3), sophomore Arjun Thillairajah (175th, 28:09.2), sophomore Matthew Smutny (28:23.4), first-year Nate Reservitz (196th, 28:29.6), junior Kevin Echelberry (206th, 28:40.3), first-year Victor Nash (227th, 29:00.7) and sophomore Joseph Ecklund (244th, 29:16.8).
Case Western Reserve will return to action on Saturday, October 16 at the Inter-Region Rumble, hosted by Oberlin College in Oberlin, Ohio.
