The Case Western Reserve University men's cross country team recorded a fifth-place finish out of 35 teams at the 2021 Inter-Regional Rumble, hosted by Oberlin College in Oberlin, Ohio on Saturday morning.
The Spartans finished the race with 151 points, placing behind John Carroll (60), Wisconsin-Whitewater (67), Carnegie Mellon (103) and Wisconsin-Oshkosh (130).
Once again, junior Jack Begley was the top finisher for the Spartans, placing fifth overall out of 306 runners in the 8K race with a time of 25:30.2. Senior Trey Razanauskas was 19th with a mark of 26:07.0, followed by senior Logan Singer in 42nd place with a time of 26:45.7. Rounding out the scorers for the Spartans were junior Robert St. Clair in 46th place with a time of 26:48.8 and junior Liam O'Reilly in 47th place with a time of 26:54.2.
Completing CWRU's top seven were junior Parker Straight in 59th place with a time of 27:07.0 and senior Alex Loeper in 64th place with a time of 27:12.3. Other finishers for the Spartans in the varsity race included first-year Aidan Nathan (79th place, 27:27.8), first-year Nate Gilbert (85th place, 27:30.5) and first-year Niles Tilenius (148th place, 28:17.1).
John Carroll's Alex Phillip was the top overall finisher in the championship race with a time of 24:59.5.
Un the open race, the top finisher for the Spartans was junior Jacob Conard, who placed 17th with a time of 27:37.6, with first-year Hans Holst crossing the line 19th with a time of 27:40.2 and senior Chris Heermann 20th with a time of 27:42.4.
The Spartans will now turn their attention towards the 2021 University Athletic Association Championships in two weeks. The conference championship meet, hosted by the University of Rochester, will be held on Saturday, October 30th.
