2019-20 CWRU Women's Tennis Season Recap

The Spartans compiled an overall record of 5-4 during the year, before the season was cut short due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Case Western Reserve was nationally-ranked throughout the campaign and was 25th in the last Division III team rankings, released on March 13.

Junior Madeleine Paolucci was named a 2020 ITA Division III Women's All-American, after finishing in the Top-20 in the final Oracle/ITA Collegiate Tennis Singles Rankings. With the honor, Paolucci became the program's only four-time All-American. She finished the season with an 8-8 singles record and added a 9-7 doubles record during the year.

Paolucci ended the season ranked ninth among all NCAA Division III singles players and second among players in the Central Region, as she currently has the 10th-most singles victories in program history (43-27).

Paolucci was also named to the All-University Athletic Association Women's Tennis Team for her play at no. 1 singles, while the duo of Paolucci and first-year Savannah Bright earned All-UAA honors for their play at No. 1 doubles during the season. Unlike previous years, where first-, second-, and honorable mention All-UAA teams were selected, there was only one All-UAA team recognized in 2019-20, due to the shortened season.

In doubles action, Paolucci and Bright went 9-4 together. The duo was ranked 25th in the final Division III rankings, and were the seventh-ranked doubles pairing in the Central Region. This was Paolucci's third career All-UAA honor, while Bright claimed the honor for the first time in her career.

Bright, who was 6-9 on the year in singles play and competed primarily at no. 2 singles, was ranked 20th in the Central Region singles rankings, while first-year Shreya Ramani was ranked 24th in the region. Ramani posted an 8-4 overall record in singles action, competing primarily at no. 3 singles.

The Spartans played a competitive schedule during the season, with three of the team's nine opponents featured in the ITA National Rankings at the time of the match.

In the fall, the Spartans had a number of outstanding performances at the 2019 Intercollegiate Tennis Association Division III Central Region Championships in Kalamazoo, Michigan. Juniors Nicole Cardwell and Trisha Sundaram, who were seeded fifth in the doubles draw, advanced to the semifinals of the bracket. In addition, Cardwell finished in the semifinal consolation singles bracket.

In addition to the team's success on the court, six members of the squad were recognized as UAA spring All-Academic honorees. Individual Spartans recognized included juniors Mira Amin, Cardwell and Paolucci, and sophomores Eliza Georgiades, Nidhi Jha and Shreyaa Mukund.
