No. 31 Women's Tennis Falls to No. 11 Kenyon, 6-3

The 31st-ranked Case Western Reserve University women's tennis team suffered its fifth loss of the 2019 campaign, dropping a 6-3 decision to the 11th-ranked Kenyon College at the Jasper Tennis Center in Gambier, Ohio on Friday evening.

The loss dropped the Spartans to 5-5 on the season, while Kenyon raised its record to 8-2 on the year with the victory.

CWRU grabbed the early lead in the match, with sophomores Madeleine Paolucci and Nicole Cardwell picking up an 8-4 victory over Erika Oku and Maggie Sweeney at first doubles, followed by an 8-7 (7-4) victory at third doubles for freshmen Eliza Georgiades and Nidhi Jha over Kayla Pukys and Annie Reiner. At second doubles, sophomore Mira Amin and freshman Sneha Karnam dropped an 8-4 match to Daria Beshentseva and Ilana Blackwood to make it a 2-1 score heading into singles play.

In singles action, Paolucci earned a 6-1, 6-3 win over Oku in the first singles match. However, the Spartans would drop each of the remaining singles matches, allowing the Ladies to earn the 6-3 victory.

Case Western Reserve will be back in action tomorrow morning, when the team takes on 25th-ranked Swarthmore College at 10:00 a.m. in the Jasper Tennis Center in Gambier, Ohio.
